View Full Version : Mini meet- Basking Ridge/Bernardsville peeps
maxse01 03-15-2005, 04:51 PM I've been told that their are enough of us to have a meet in the Basking Ridge/Bernardsville/Short Hills area. My questions is....where? Anyone have any suggestions as to what might be a good place to go that is a public parking lot and we will not get hassled by the police?
I do not have much luck with the pigs in my home town which is why i need to keep switching cars every year or two :pullover
So let's hear some spots ladies.....
druster 03-16-2005, 12:34 AM Maybe the Bridgewater mall?
The cops around here have nothing else to do but write tickets.... :(
Maxse01- I hope you are enjoying the car, as best you can in the break-in period. :redspot :redspot
MP525i 03-16-2005, 09:57 AM i'm sure william annin or ridge high school during a weekend wouldn't be too bad. lyons mall would be good but always too crowded during the weekends.

Bridgewater security sucks. Last time i was there taking pictures they wanted to throw us out....and we only had 4 cars!!!
I am enjoying it...the first 60 miles have been awesome. I do keep hitting the steering wheel for an audio control that isn't there. :D Pics will be posted soon!!
All the places i know in BR are always full of cops....we need someplace that we won't be hassled...
MP525i 03-16-2005, 11:52 AM All the places i know in BR are always full of cops....we need someplace that we won't be hassled...
hey man, what about the schools? or even the kings parking lot in b-ville? we can stay there until they kick us out and then make a quick run to The Stable and back.
-mike
druster 03-16-2005, 12:07 PM Did not know that about the bridgewater mall :(
The high schools may work.
I think there are a couple of large parking lots (with stores that have closed)along 22 West just past Bridgewater but they may be too far?
MP525i 03-16-2005, 12:28 PM just figured with the schools it would be wide open space and no one would be around to "inconvenience."
then again 22 works just as well. the only large parking lot i can think of on 22 though is the one by JMK (movie theather) and the Harrow's christmas shop (by Jiffy lube- close to 287 on the west bound side).
-mike
maxse01 03-16-2005, 01:23 PM I dunno. I guess Ridge parking lot is the best place to meet, then we can all figure out where we are going to go....
Since their are going to be so few people...maybe just a drive would be better.
MP525i 03-17-2005, 11:43 AM me and this other guy dan (has an M coupe) are meeting up (probably ridge or something) the saturday morning before the meet on march 26th. if anyone else in the area wants to meet up we can set a time for noon or something.
-mike
maxse01 03-17-2005, 12:07 PM Whatever...this is turning out to be a bomb anyway. Probably just be couple cars and a crazy drive.
dandp 03-17-2005, 12:37 PM What about Jockey Hollow? I think you can get in there during the off season without paying for entry...
maxse01 03-17-2005, 02:46 PM What about Jockey Hollow? I think you can get in there during the off season without paying for entry...
sure...sounds good to me.
druster 03-17-2005, 02:54 PM Jockey Hollow....when?
maxse01 03-17-2005, 02:56 PM Jockey Hollow....when?
This Saturday...weather looks to be good. Good day for a spring drive.
Glenn95 03-17-2005, 04:45 PM Time?
maxse01 03-17-2005, 05:21 PM How's 1:30 sound to everyone?
Meeting can be in the center of bernardsville at the Kings....then we can drive up to Jocky Hollow. It's only 5 or 6 miles from there.
maxse01 03-18-2005, 11:24 AM So...........who's with me?
1. maxse01
2.
1 is a lonely number guys... :help
MP525i 03-18-2005, 11:41 AM no good this weekend, but if you guys enjoy yourselves this saturday, we could do it again before the meet next saturday morning (for those who can get up early) hahahaha.
-mike
dandp 03-18-2005, 11:52 AM I'll be there....probably with the winter wheels on still...
MP525i 03-18-2005, 12:17 PM dan,
are you definitely down for next saturday's meet?
-mike
dandp 03-18-2005, 12:30 PM mike - barring any unforeseen circumstances - yes...and the photos beforehand as well
maxse01 03-18-2005, 02:15 PM I'll be there....probably with the winter wheels on still...

druster 03-18-2005, 04:52 PM I am pretty sure I can make it. I will know for sure tonight.
Two things, first do you care if I bring my c32? The m coupe is in storage for the winter in PA.
Second, I may have to bring my son and he is not a car guy.....yet.
Dru

as long as your son doesn't beat on any of the cars :devillook
maxse01 03-18-2005, 06:59 PM May hit the KOP meet in PA...
This is not going to be an eventful meet with only the 2 of us. It's a good 70 miles away, so i'm not definite yet.
dandp 03-18-2005, 08:13 PM keep me posted...
druster 03-18-2005, 10:24 PM I can make it tomorrow.
Just let me know if you are not going to show.
I wouldn't blame you for going to the KOP meet. They have a bunch of stuff planned and they would prefer only M3's.
I went to a meet in KOP two weeks ago and it was a good time. Nothing planned mind you just a meet and then dinner at HOoters.
Dru
Glenn95 03-18-2005, 10:39 PM do you care if I bring my c32?
Aren't they automatic? :embarrasm
I may have to bring my son
Bring your minivan! :rofl I'll race 'ya! :rofl
Ah, just kidding buddy. Have fun if your mini meet works out. If it were earlier, I'd try to come up.
druster 03-18-2005, 10:46 PM Bring your minivan! I'll race 'ya!
How is your minivan shopping coming wise A$$?
I will race you in the c32 any day tough guy....too late of a meet for you? come up earlier and we can see what happens when you race an automatic..... :evil2

Dru
well i guess the new time for the meet is at 2pm :shifty (i liked the idea of it at noon but whatever)
so if you want we can meet up at noon, grab some lunch (bk in b-ville), go for a little ride through the country (hahaha- like mendhem or something) and then head on down. it's up to you.
i know dan and i were gonna meet up early so that'd be awesome if we can get 3-5 cars together. :)
can we get a caravan together for this?? meet, lunch, drive and head down to rutgers.
-mike
maxse01 03-22-2005, 04:35 PM what the hell???? where was the meet and when????

chuck, that thing is amazing... looks like avus kinda... :devillook (sorry, couldn't resist).
i say, even if there is rain and the johnson park meet is moved to another day, we all get together for a basking ridge/b-ville meet. i'd like to see that estroil coupe in person!!!! :)
dan- GREAT PICS!!! can i expect the same? :devillook if it's gonna be raining though, i think we should postpone the shoot. plus i'll have my wing on after this monday. :)
-mike
dandp 03-23-2005, 09:33 AM thanks for the comps guys.... :)
Mike - we'll see how the weather is Saturday...in any case, we can always go for it on a different date, etc - late afternoon / evening lighting is great to work with as well
I think we could do a nice loop of a drive, and get lunch at the Black Horse in Mendham sometime...lots of nice roads out our way....and that little thing called 287....
maxse01 03-23-2005, 11:44 AM it's the lighting in the pic....it is really much more purple than avus
as drew said....it is a color that has to be appreciated in person, no camera can do that color justice :eek2
MP525i 03-23-2005, 11:45 AM that's awesome! hopefully i'll get to see it this weekend.

Not heading down to Johnson Park until about 1, but we can certainly meet up in B'ville before. I just need to figure out how to get my car clean by then. :(
dandp 03-25-2005, 05:31 PM I'll be down south tonight, won't be able to hook up in the Bernardsville area now...I'll see you guys at the meet though.
MP525i 03-25-2005, 06:31 PM chuck, feel free to stop by tomorrow am. i'm gonna be doing my car. simple wash and carnuba. i'm probably gonna start at 9am so any time after that is cool. just give me a call.

See you over there Dru. :cool
MP525i 03-29-2005, 02:49 PM dru, it was really great to meet you. as you can probably tell from the other thread (johnson park meet), it was a pretty good turn out. would have been cool to see the benz there but we'll forgive you.... i guess. haha.
i hope you can bust the coupe out pretty soon. although these april showers are really getting on my last nerve.
OH!!! and the good news. the guy is coming to look at my car on sunday. if all goes well i might be on my way to purchase either a 99 estroil blue coupe in VA or a 00 dakar yellow coupe in NC. we'll see. i'm just crossing my fingers that everything goes well this sunday.
dan/dru- how is the insurance on these cars? i heard it's mad cheap because some company's *allstate?* don't know how to classify the car. true?
thanks!!!
-mike
druster 03-29-2005, 02:57 PM Mike,
Yeah, I wish I could have made it, the family function was meh.
Since you are having someone look at your car this weekend (Hopefully buys it) we can do one of two things. My friend has an 00 dakar coupe that he would let you drive, he lives in Yardley: or we could make the trip to Conshocken where my car is stored and you could drive mine. Either way you should drive it before making a decision. My friend would be stoked if you got a dakar coupe, he actually emailed me the picture of the one in NC (he wants to collect them). Sweet car!! There is a supercharged one in Park Ridge, NJ w/24k miles, asking $30.
Shoot me an email or call me if you want to try and do this, this weekend. (973)-953-8012.
rmani 03-29-2005, 03:01 PM mmmmm dakar or estorl m coupe. :)
dandp 03-29-2005, 03:26 PM Mike - you could always drive mine as well....as far as insurance goes, it seems to be okay - my carrier - Liberty Mutual knows what it is though...they know what M Cars are. I'm also old... ...lol.
Glenn95 03-29-2005, 03:31 PM Mike,

Um, I would be that "friend"; nice of you to volunteer my car :stickoutt . I don't trust Jersey drivers-aren't they really bad? Isn't that why your insurance is so high? J/K!
I did see that dakar coupe for sale; if I had the money, I would have bought it. Dru's right, I do want to collect them.
You're welcome to test drive mine anytime. See my sig for mods.
maxse01 03-29-2005, 03:47 PM yes yes, i need to drive an M coupe too.
IF I COULD FIT IN ONE!!!!!!!!!!! :mad
BMW should have had people 6'4" in mind when they built it!!
druster 03-29-2005, 03:52 PM Um, I would be that "friend"; nice of you to volunteer my car
Sorry, I did not think you would mind. :rolleyes
mmmmm dakar or estorl m coupe.
You could always trade in the e36 for a coupe :devillook :redspot
Hope you are feeling better.
As far as insurance goes, it is not bad but I am old (like Dan) and have kids
which they tell me helps lower the rates.
yes yes, i need to drive an M coupe too.
Anytime Chuck.
-Dru
Glenn95 03-29-2005, 04:00 PM If y'all are doing a big M coupe switching/driving day, call Jack with his supercharged s52. He's in south Jersey, and then call me-I didn't get to drive it this past weekend. :(
MP525i 03-29-2005, 04:02 PM well it's not a matter of me driving one to see if i like one or not. i used to work at morristown bmw and at the time i was infatuated with the m roadster. after a few months of working there we got in an imola red m coupe. i drove it down to the car wash in madison and took "the long way" back. fell in love with it and wanted one ever since.
m coupe...so hot right now...m coupe (a little zoolander humor).
thanks for the offer dru! i don't know if this weekend is gonna be good (rain and all) but next sunny day i'd love to drive it. :)
glenn- don't worry, i know how to handle myself. that m driving school did teach me some cool stuff. haha ;)
yeah, just got a free online quote from allstate and it's $300 cheaper than what i'm paying now. granted they are probably not factoring in some stuff, so i would guess it's exactly what i'm paying now...which is totally fine.
cross your fingers for this sunday guys!!! i really want this sold so i can the next new clown shoe owner!! :alright :alright
-mike
MP525i 03-29-2005, 04:04 PM just another thing i remembered.... i'm also thinking about a 99 m roadster in silver/black. what really makes me think about this car is that the guy who has it (in VT) uses it for what it was meant for... hot sunny days where he could put the top down. the roadsters got ... 17k miles!!!
which makes me think i should go with the roadster... input?? :help
-mike
druster 03-29-2005, 04:13 PM Mike,
I didn't realize you have had coupe fever for such an extended period... :D
The miles are good and the color is very good....BUT a roadster does zero for me. My vote is for the coupe :redspot :redspot :redspot
It was supposed to rain last weekend (Sat) and it didn't so, keep hoping for this weekend.

I for one don't like convertables, but that's just me (too mid-life crisis looking and I have heat issues in the summer time, so it wouldn't be down much anyway).
Sounds great for the amount of miles etc. The guys who own the roady's on the z3 forum here love them. I kinda like the unique looks of the coupe though. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like the 'sideways' glances you get when driving them, but now I'm disappointed if other car enthusiats don't take notice.
MP525i 03-29-2005, 04:21 PM thanks guys! i would much rather get the coupe too, but i do mad amounts of driving. i've had my 95 m3 since june of 2003. in a little less than 2 years i've managed to put close to 40k miles on her. :( i don't want to do that to the coupe.... :( but estroil/dakar coupe vs a silver roadster.... jezzzz
i shouldn't even be thinking about this. i still have to sell my car first. haha
-mike
Glenn95 03-29-2005, 04:42 PM in a little less than 2 years i've managed to put close to 40k miles on her.
I'm putting about 30-35K/year on it :( . That's one reason I need to start collecting these.
maxse01 03-29-2005, 05:15 PM M coupe, M roadster...what's the difference? They are both fast :evil2
druster 04-03-2005, 09:49 AM Mike,
Still showing the car today or did the "potential" buyer postpone due to the weather?
If you are still showing the car, GOOD LUCK!!!!! :buttrock
Dru
MP525i 04-03-2005, 10:59 AM thanks dru!

thanks again!
i'll keep ya posted.

maxse01 04-03-2005, 12:20 PM yeah good luck. Maybe he will see the insaine wax job in the rain and that will push him over the edge! :lol
MP525i 04-03-2005, 01:57 PM what a G-damn let down. he couldn't get up here so he wants to reschedule for later in the week. :(
i'll keep y'all posted. sorry guys.
-mike
druster 04-03-2005, 02:21 PM Mike,
Sorry to hear that.
Let's hope things work out later in the week! :)
maxse01 04-03-2005, 11:59 PM Sucks man....at least he said he is coming back and didn't blow you off completly.
MP525i 04-04-2005, 08:39 AM well i'm just getting a bad vibe about this all together. i mean i'm checking out this m coupe. i'm asking for the vin# to run a carfax, i'm asking about it's history, asking about why the guy bought it/selling it, etc.
this guy isn't doing any of that which makes me feel like he really doesn't care. i could be wrong but that's just the impression that i'm getting and it feels like it isn't gonna sell.
*sigh* oh well.
-mike
druster 04-04-2005, 01:24 PM Mike,
Don't sweat it, I have had several people that were selling cars I was interested in not call back or respond to emails....WTF are they selling a car or not (is what I thought). Just keep hounding them and they will respond.
If I can help, let me know.

yeah, i talked with the guy today and it looks like i'm gonna have to wait until next sunday for him to look at it again. whatever- i should approach this situation like i did when i first posted the car for sale: "if i sell it, i sell it. if not, no big deal."
this weather has to stop though. i'd say stop by one day and we can detail up the c32 and then go crusin'. we just need a little help with the sun though. *can't wait for summer*

Time: Sunday 2pm
Place: B'ville Kings
Weekend is best, during the week i am never done with work until at least 7-8pm.
Seeing as how you got more miles, i'm thinking that your car is going to be quicker. But we shall see :D

MP525i 04-05-2005, 08:47 AM sunday it is.. suppose to be nice too! but that obviously can change with a drop of the hat. i'll have to bring the lady too. :)
hopefully this guy will get to my house early so i don't miss this meet. also i hope to be bringing good news with me too. ;)

rohan is right....we will have better luck if we make it late on a week night.
That work for you Dru?
MP525i 04-05-2005, 11:45 AM i say we still have a little meet on sunday. it's gonna be a sunny and warm day. we can all meet up and then go for a little cruise in the country. hahaha. mendham to the stable and all around far hills/b-ville/etc.
what do ya think?
this late night run... hmmmm.. i come home from anna's around 1am on thursday, so i'll be on 287. anyone wanna meet up? (might be raining though) :(
-mike
rmani 04-05-2005, 12:44 PM sunday's no good i'll be at the autocross :)
Better not rain again damnit.
maxse01 04-05-2005, 02:27 PM Oh yeah....what autox is that?
druster 04-05-2005, 03:10 PM Chuck,
I am pretty sure I can make it on Sunday. For a late night meet I would need a weeks notice. The wife may have some issues with that but I fully intend to work around them. :devillook
Rmani,
WHere is the autocross?
Mike,
You've got the full blown Coupe fever eh? Hopefully you find a cure soon. :redspot
As for who is going to win, it should be a heck of a race Chuck. :D
Dru

-mike
maxse01 04-05-2005, 03:56 PM If the autox is someplace close on Sunday then i am going to go there. I am itching to cut lose in my car, so i may just painters tape the hell out of it and go autox.

Sorry to let you down. The M Coupe has two more weeks of storage before I can bring it up to Jersey. :(
I will let you know when I have it in Jersey. :D
M Coupe is much > than any AMG ...
MP525i 04-05-2005, 04:10 PM M Coupe is much > than any AMG ...
well at least we're all on the same page with that fact. hahahaha
if everyone wants to do the auto-x then i'll have to stop by later. (where is it?) i have to show my car to this guy... if he shows up this time. hahahaha
-mike
rmani 04-05-2005, 04:50 PM Autocross will be at Giant's Stadium. Hosted by www.themclub.net. If you wanna race I suggest pre-registering and we need to be there by 9AM.
Any late night racing do it Friday night so I can come watch and perhaps partake if that other M coupe feels like beating me down. :)
maxse01 04-05-2005, 05:37 PM Pre-reg complete.
How the hell are you going to be up and there by 9 ro? :b_pink

This isn't a very big club like NASA or BMWCCA so I wouldn't count on it. Just buy an open-faced helmet for $60.
druster 04-05-2005, 09:10 PM I won't be able to make the auto-cross. Have fun.

unfortunetly i won't be able to get to the auto cross because of this guy. if you want to meet up in b-ville kings for a little ride up to the stable and back down again, i'd be more than happy to do that. :)
afterwards though, i think i'm gonna head up to giants stadium. sounds like fun.... too bad i can't partake. :( i really want to freakin' auto-cross this car!!

Don't be pissed, I def. wanna race.

I would say B'ville, same place just later at night. Time doesn't really matter as long as it is late. Like after 10pm.
We'll play it by ear.

MP525i 04-11-2005, 08:46 AM soooooo, what was the outcome? did you guys get to meet up? (sorry, i couldn't make it- had to watch desperate housewives... what a great show! haha)
sux we couldn't get something together like a cruise up to giants stadium. that auto-x was great!
anna had a great time too, surprisingly. she wants to go again soon. i don't know if we'll be able to make next sunday but, definately sometime in the next few weeks. she loved the viper rt/10 (go figure..she loves american cars... I KNOW I KNOW... something must be done about this. hahaha).
i'll try to post pics of the auto-x. i got some pretty cool shots.

druster 04-11-2005, 09:26 AM Mike,

I hope there was not a meet last night, I did not attend. I drank abit too much Saturday night and was feeling the effects all day yesterday.
How bout Thursday night this week Chuck?
Dru

would have been nice to have an m coupe, but the m3 is fine. :) (just been drooling over an m coupe for the past 4-5 years) maybe this is better... because then when i've exhausted the m3, i can get an s54 m coupe :evil2

hahaha i'd really love to do that glenn, you really have no idea (freakin' m coupes... sooo awesome).
but believe it or not i have something more important than buying an m coupe... MOVING OUT OF MY PARENTS HOUSE!! hahahahahaahhaha if i was gonna live at home for the next 2-3 years then i would jump on this regardless if i sold my car or not. but seeings how i can't stand living with them anymore, i gotta move out. hahaha. i needed to have sold my car for the price i was asking so the payments i'm making now wouldn't change. i could probably sell my car for $13-14k, but then my monthly payments will be higher. can't really afford that. :(
don't worry glenn. i'll be a member of the clown shoe club sooner or later.
-mike

I want to have my car buffed to see if it takes out the blemishes.

I will have you take a look at the c32 to see if you can do anything with it. It has been parked in a driveway for 3 years where 6 children routinely play...and the car has suffered :help :(
For the coupe I just ordered a bunch of supplies from IBIZ, every hear of them. I have a friend that swears by the stuff. I am going to try that on the Coupe (hopefully this weekend).

Glenn95 04-11-2005, 02:50 PM So do you guys use a buffering machine? Claybar? I'm going to get some claybar and try it out at the end of this month. I think my front spoiler is shot, needs resprayed, but some blemishes on the side and rear that I think can be saved. :help
How can you be as cool as me, you live in PA and should be posting in the OTHER region.
Yes, but I live one house off the Delaware river, so I can kinda skip over to the Jersey side occasionally, or as I say, "the dark side".
Oh, and PA forums>NJ forum. :D

We use a cyclone machine and clay bar. Not in that order of course. :stickoutt
We have found that the prep is the most important part of the detail because then you don't have to screw around and pick at stuff when you wax. Makes the whole process much easier.
Dru,
We can make your C32 SHINE! You should have seen my buddies CLK500 before we got our hands on it....it was destroyed. We are doing it again this weekend so you are welcome to swing by and take a look.

Glenn95 04-12-2005, 03:41 PM Nice pics Mike.
Mike, how much to detail my coupe? Outside only. Wheels/tires not necessary either if they take up time.
MP525i 04-12-2005, 03:58 PM glenn,
it all depends on how bad a shape the paint is in. it could range from $100-$200 depending on what we have to do.
by the looks of the paint in your sig, i would say $100-$150. i don't think it would need any "serious," work.
again, i'd have to see more detailed pics under direct sunlight.
-mike

by the looks of the paint in your sig, i would say $100-$150. i don't think it would need any "serious," work.
again, i'd have to see more detailed pics under direct sunlight.

it's all good glenn. we'll work something out. maybe if there is a meet one day (another mini-meet basking ridge/b-ville (WHICH btw, is the ONLY way we will start a new thread!!!)), you can bring the car up REAL early and chuck and i can work on it to have it ready for the afternoon.
i dunno, we'll figure something out. :)

Glenn95 05-02-2005, 10:16 AM Yes; once you have the image you want, you'll have to take it to a T-shirt place so they can sill screen the design. Mine was all one color, so it was easy. If yours has multiple colors, it's going to cost more etc. It cost me $50 as a set up fee, then $7/shirt.
I can get you the name of my place at least to compare prices that you'll get once that time comes around.
