View Full Version : Summit March 24-25 w/ Schatt
Mad Dog 20/20 03-14-2005, 03:59 PM Schattenbaum Region PCA (http://www.schattenbaum.org/) is doing an event 3/25-26. :D
Their events are always very nice, and have recently included a good number of MARB's. The events are also relatively cheap. Perhaps the best bang for buck in terms of seat time at Summit.
I'm going and know a few other MARP's are signed-up. I don't think its too late to register . . .
Lance325is 03-14-2005, 04:46 PM I'm sending my forms in tomorrow hopefully I can still get in. Thanks for letting us know.
sardil 03-14-2005, 05:11 PM I'll be there. Where are you guys staying?
Mad Dog 20/20 03-14-2005, 05:27 PM I never stay over there. Its only an hour away . . .
But it is always a BITCH getting up in the morning for that 2nd day. Maybe I should stay . . . :rolleyes
Lance325is 03-14-2005, 05:36 PM If I get in I will be commuting since its only 45min to an hour.
Nihilation 03-14-2005, 06:57 PM Price for this event?
jkuper 03-14-2005, 07:05 PM $250 with instructor, $220 without http://vista.pca.org/sch/driversed/forms/schde05.pdf
Mr. Maboomba 03-15-2005, 12:07 AM Oh shit, I'm coming!!!
My parents are going to be so mad that I'm about to smuggle college savings money to RACE!!!
You have to be a member, don't you? :embarrasm Well that just bumped the price from $250 to $292.
Can anyone loan me a helmet so this doesn't get ridiculously expensive?
magnetic1 03-15-2005, 01:06 AM If I wasnt going down to VIR on friday for the Mazda event.. Id be there. :(
Mad Dog 20/20 03-15-2005, 10:15 AM You do not have to be a PCA member to register. You really should buy your own, properly-fitted, helmet. You can get a properly certified motorcycle helmet for reletively cheap. Stop by a cycle shop and check them out.
Eric, you can do one day of Schatt and pay half-price, I think.
Man, this is VERY tempting! :help I am VERY interested in doing Friday only because I fly out to Cali on Sat.

You can borrow my motorcycle helmet. I think it would fit you well.

Lance325is 03-15-2005, 01:31 PM sent my forms out today hopefully I get in.
Mr. Maboomba 03-15-2005, 04:10 PM Nevermind, I'm not going. :( Brewery Meet plus my friend wants me to go drinking with him in Jersey. :help
All the instructed groups are full anyway. :(

That would suck. :( I would not hate rainy DE's so much if you could just run with the windows UP. Hopefully the forecast will change . . . for the better.
sardil 03-22-2005, 01:45 PM Yeah, I hope they're wrong. I'll be Rain-X'ing my windows today regardless.
sunir 03-22-2005, 02:44 PM advice for wet road course: stay off the dry line (you may laugh and say duh, but I've seen so many folks go to a dry line in more than a few areas even in the wet due to habit because they've done it so many times and that's all they feel comfortable with or know):devillook you gotta get a feel for the wet track, try and locate where the grip is, lengthen braking zones, focus on smoother pedal transitions, keep an eye on the track surface conditions...it will change through the day...make your turn ins a bit later and use harder throttle with a straighter track out...
NoSoup4U 03-22-2005, 02:52 PM Sardil -- bring the X5 then :devillook :stickoutt
I think it's like a 30% chance of showers. Hopefully, the front will move quickly through on friday (no offense friday participants) ... that way, saturday participants can play.
I remember two years ago or was it last year, I think maybe it was Garrett and I out there -- torrential downpour ... I had the silver E46 at the time. Back seats completely soaked -- nice running streams in the carousel. It was wicked out there. DSC was DEFINITELY on :stickoutt ..
Late apexed every corner I think ...

Yeah, it was me. I was dumb enough to do a few rainy DE's last year (one rainy event is good experience). It was the equivalent of repeatedly hosing-out my interior . . . with filfthy track water. :(
They should change the stupid windows-down rule or give rain-check/refunds.

you can just gut the interior and be done with it :devillook ...the rule to leave windows down is a safety call...in the event of impact the window shatters inside the door and not on the driver. it's a good rule...besides if your going fast enough you don't really get much water in the car through the windows ;) :D :stickoutt
nick325xit 5spd 03-22-2005, 04:25 PM I really enjoy driving in the wet. The decision to go from the dry line to the wet line is also a really entertaining one. "Oops, lots 'o drifting in turn 3 that time. Guess I'd better get off the dry line now."
I can't wait to get the 323 out there. :D Sadly, it won't be this event. :(

Good stuff.
Regardless, I'm not in the market for a interior car wash right now :mad
Lance325is 03-22-2005, 10:49 PM I will see you all there friday and saturday...crossing fingers for no rain.
Anyone want to meet up Friday morning and caravan up 270 ??
Last year when I ran in the rain I had my T1-Ss on which are great rain tires...I wonder how good these RA-1s are in the rain...

You commuting bastards....I'll be there Thursday nite :(
Lance325is 03-23-2005, 12:20 AM I'll be commuting friday morning and staying some place friday night. Not sure where yet but I'm sure it wont be a problem finding somewhere to stay. Any suggestions?

Water runs down my arm because I always have my arm out giving pointbys. :redspot
Good advice on the wet/dry line. I have found driving smoothly on line, regardless if it is wet gives me more control. It's when my instructor has me searching for dry spot then forces me over where it gets crazy. The tricky part is once the rain stops and track conditions change.

I have a double room in Winchester if you need to crash.
sunir 03-23-2005, 01:37 PM I will see you all there friday and saturday...crossing fingers for no rain.
if it's rainin' like it is now...have some rain tires on... ;) ...when you start racing you'll see that rain is the great equalizer...and smart driving can win over aggressive decisions for those with higher hp cars :)

Yea, I wouldnt mind a lil bit of rain just for the experience but, then again I want some dry time to see how the car is in the dry too. So maybe if things work out I can get both.

If it is going to rain it is always better to rain on the first day than the 2nd.
NoSoup4U 03-23-2005, 02:52 PM Someone please scan in the very helpful article that Jed wrote in the Der Bayerische. Since this is my first RACING event HOLLA!, I would like to take some of the tips he suggested and use them to my advantage so I can beat Garrett and Austin!
I remember, ignore all black flags -- something about utilizing the pits to my advantage and the cool down lap. :)

Last year at PCA (Garrett, Gary, James and my friend Ed were there) it started raining hard in the middle of my 3rd session. It hadn't rained in a week or 2 and the track was on the slippery side. I still really didn't back off all that much-and it was kinda good to see how the car handled in the wet stuff. But it was more slippery than before. I pushed a little into the Carousel and the tail came out on T1 upon exit.
My very first event was a rain day and I got to learn the rain line at Summit.

dang look at you guys...watching the weather like a hawk...man jus get out there and drive the damn car ;) :D ....this is just a DE, drive at your own safe pace regardless of weather...and keep in mind more incidents initially occur on a dry track compared to a wet one throughout the course of a weekend...

Mad Dog 20/20 03-24-2005, 06:41 PM I will be doing sat only. Was scheduled for alignment on wed w/ York, but had to cancel. So I never got the car aligned. I'll have to get it done on fri. May check you guys fri afternoon if I'm lucky.
