Hey all... yesterday my SES light came on, and today when I tried to start the car after lunch, the car would start, run for about five seconds and die. I did this about five times, even trying to throttle through the die-off, but to no avail. Finally, I just sat there thinking "I'm fu@%ed" with the key in the run position, for maybe a minute, then gave it one more try, and it started and ran fine, and the SES code is gone.

Any tips on what the problem might be? Anyone had this happen to them?

'98 740i, 98K miles, and it's for sale.

TIA... perpetual noobie :help

I'm in the same boat with ya! It used to make a sound just before it died, but now the only sound it makes is a click click when I move the key from position 0 to position 2 and vice versa. It takes me about 3-4 times before it will start. My SES light is ALWAYS lit, so mine has nothing to do with that. I'm having a coolant leak looked at next week and my mechanic will also investigate the inconsistent start. I'll let you know.

I have a 98 740iL as well; 86K miles. I wish I could sell it, but I love it too much.
