So I thought we could put together a meet at a Sonic, real old-skool drive-in car meet!

This is the closest one to DC that i found :D Roanoke, VA :shifty

wouldnt that turn a 3hr drive into a 5hr drive? but the fun factor would increase.... :D

wouldnt that turn a 3hr drive into a 5hr drive? but the fun factor would increase.... :D pretty much. You have to pay to drive on Skyline drive so we could avoid that. 81 and the parkway pretty much run parallel, so we could split time between the two. I'm trying to figure out how to fit Charlottesville into the mix so we can drive by my alma mater. Charlottesville has more restaurants per capita than any other city in case anyone's interested in more food.

Roanoke is 4-4 1/2hrs away. Blue ridge your looking at 5 1/2hrs. My aunt lives in Floyd (suberb of Roanoke) Im up there all the time. If you thinking of the Sonic Im thinking of then its about 5hrs to get there (since its down the street from my aunt).

Yea man I've driven to Roanoke four or five times in the last year. You *could* make it in 4 hours if you are haulin'. Let's try to find another Sonic :D

EDIT: Just went to the Sonic website and did a search... this is REDICULOUS... you're right, the closest one is in Southern VA or Western WVA. What has the world come to? :(

But on second thought, when I move to North Carolina in August there is a Sonic 2 minutes from me :D

Theres only one thing better then a sonic. And thats a Roy Rogers. And theres one by Lake Forest Mall in Gaithersburg. That is my suggestion. + there are some seriously good roads out past Gaithersburg.

Theres a Roy Rogers in Westminster, MD. Actually before Westminster. Its more like Finksburg. Its 15 minutes from Owings Mills, up 795 and Route 140. I love me some Gold Rush sandwiches. Mmm mmm :)

ididnt know blue ridge parkway was teh twisties :( Actually the blue ridge parkway isn't the best road for spirited driving. The speed limit is 45 and it's patrolled by Park Police. It's an incredible road for a scenic drive though.

with. i was a little jumbled up inside but i held a press conference that ended the beef, which was subsequently extracted in the form of kids at the pool.

Think the speed limit is lower than that, 30 or 35. And the park police there don't look too kindly on large groups of expensive cars zooming around at high speed, scaring the old farts driving in the park.

Ask me how I know...

Oh yeah, and to add to the fun, Park Police is federal. So the lead guy who got a reckless had to go to federal court.

Same is actually true for the GW parkway & the Clara Barton parkway in MD. Patrolled by Park Police.

FWIW, if you go on a weekday morning there is nobody on the road. I mean nobody. Imagine having one of the most beautiful roads in the country all to yourself.

Little too far for my liking, especially for some food. Now if Bimmerfest '05 was down there, I'd be all over it.

The Sonic run to roanoke is a familiar one. Although it used to be about an hour for me (from Lexington).

There are some pretty fun roads between Fredericksburg and Charlottesville if you wanted to do a drive-by of YooVeeAy. Montpelier is in Orange, VA and is also on the route.

If you were to go 95-S to F'burg, then Route 20 to C'ville, you could take 64-W to 81-S to Roanoke. That would be about the same drive time-wise as taking 81-S the whole way.

Ham, you know of any good drive-ins in Charlottesville? Roanoke and back is a pretty long drive for a day trip.

There's also a couple good breweries in Charlottesville.
