Well I am looking at either building a deck in the backyard or getting a pation poured, which you guys think is better since you guys know how the weather is here. I called a few contractors and it seems to average around 5$ a sq. ft for the slab, which is only 4 inches deep. I am looking at a 15' by 20' slab. prep and pour is around 1500  , i think for that price i build a hell of a deck. So if you have any opinions or recommendations. please let me know

Ok I'll get my cousin to come do it for $1499. There you saved some money. J/K my cousin actually works for a concrete contractor. I had him price up a 24x40 slab for a shop for me and it was less than that. My wife won't let me build a shop. She says "you already have a 3 car garage wha else are you going to put in there?" My reply "a boat, motorcyle, and move the FJ40 out of the garage." She ain't buyin it......
Let me see if I can find his number. What part of town do you live in?

I do decorative concrete and I also pour concrete slabs. $5 sq ft is not a bad price. You can call me at 817-501-8697 if you want to discuss some concrete options. Keep in mind the price of treated lumber for a deck. it's probably higher than you think and you will get to $1500 real quick!!
Why dont you do it yourself? Get a damn book from Home Depot. I did that for tile and other stuff I have learned to do myself. You will enjoy it more and can make it perfect. I have done all the ceramic tile in my house and it does not look bad at all.

We poured ours through some guys on another forum for $1 sq ft plus the cost of the concrete, which came to about $1200 total. The guy laid rebar and all that jazz. We poured a HUGE back patio to go under the balcony we just built and a large driveway extension and slab to the back/side of the house. We're about to have them come back out and do more- if Wes calls the guys in the next few days, want me to mention your project? We live relatively close enough that it may work out if they're willing to hook up someone else.
On a side note- is your wife working right now? I work as a recruiter now and I'm looking for good people to place. Send me people!! :stickoutt
