After looking at all the options for integrating my Ipod - Ive pretty much decided to go with an alpine unit thats all set up.
Are there any fitment problems with A standard head unit...the best buy site doesnt show any alpines as fitting...surely this cant be the case?
Was just gonna do a cda 9847 if it'll fit

i'm pretty sure most standard headunits will fit, they just require a dash kit, if you do a search im sure you can find some threads about it... if not here, there are tons of threads about it on e46fanatics

So I went and bought the alpine unit and installed it yesterday..no problems at all...it fit just fine...behind that big old factory radio is a standard din hole. It was a little troublesome getting all the wires stashed away behind the unit but all in all it was pretty easy..
Im now ipod equipped and it sounds a LOT better than my stock system ever did even with the factory speakers still installed.

I noticed you have monted the steering wheel control for your new stereo. Will the steering wheel controls that came on the car not work? How bad does it affect your air flow out of the main air ducts?

Yeah the steering controls no longer work, but if you wanted you could get a PAC Swix to get them to work again. I just prefered it this way since it also controls the voice commands.
When the screen is up, it is a good idea to close the ducts in the center.
