View Full Version : ?Best Max Performance Summer tires for the price?
kindtree 03-04-2005, 05:16 PM I just recently purcahsed some wheels for my car (staggered DS2's), and I was wondering what the best max performance summer tires were if I'm looking to spend under 700 for all four.
Also, where would be the best place to get these (I've already looked at TireRack.com and DIscount tire). It looks like the Kumho Ecsta MX's are the best for the price, according to the TireRack reviews. I don't care about tire noise really, or harshness of ride. I'm just concerned with the dry grip and response and maybe tire wear.
Dwayne 03-04-2005, 05:26 PM There was a thread about Fuzion ZRi tires recently, that might be another one for you to consider.
Sammyzuko 03-06-2005, 03:21 AM The MXs are supposed to be great for the $$$.
The Toyo T1-S would also be one of my top picks. These guys have them at a good price:

1996BMW328I 03-06-2005, 09:22 AM I'm running Toyo Proxes 4. Don't know if they make them in your size but I love them. There a link in my sig to my page with pics.
I live in an area with nothing but back roads. Trust me, the Toyo's are great. (You haven't lived 'til you drove a windy Pennsylvania back road at 80!)
inacoma 03-06-2005, 06:26 PM Wait till you get those Proxes 4's on some wet windy roads.... Just be very carefull though, cause they push really bad. Heck I think that they push too bad on dry roads... I'll never waste my money on these things again.... I'm trying to decide between Bridgestone Potenza RE750's and GoodYear Eagle F1's... maybe even Nitto 555's...
CABimmer 03-06-2005, 06:28 PM cant go wrong with the MXs Ive had 3 sets, Even if the cost as much as the pilots or SO3s I would still get them.
M3ENVY 03-06-2005, 11:45 PM I have Goodyear F1 good tire. I like them better than the Toyo TS-1, but you will pay about 400.00 more. My set of F1 was about 1,200 on 2003 M3 rims 18" and the Toyo were 700.00 on stock 17" M3 rims.
toyo t1-s or bfgoodrich g-force kdw......... i'm also looking into the fuzion zri's
nismo skyline 03-07-2005, 12:27 PM the new falken azenies are really good in the dry
kindtree 03-11-2005, 11:49 PM Went with PZero Rosso Assimetrico FWIW. Got a GREAT deal on some!
///M3 CRAZY 03-12-2005, 11:35 AM pirelli, toyo, and kumho's SUCK! the tires i run now (S03's) are good. and if you can put up with a little noise i still think the yoko AVS sports are the BEST TIRES FOR THEIR PRICE. they were great. the dry traction is about the same as i have now. the wet traction was good with the yoko's but no tire compares to the S03 in the wet....
///M3 CRAZY 03-12-2005, 11:35 AM ohh and this last set of S03's i have on the car right now i got for $600 shipped for all 4 tires.
toopercentmlk 03-12-2005, 12:45 PM im on 235/40/17f 245/40/17r Continental Sport Contact2s, they grip VERY well and have GREAT ride quality, but the compromise is some sidewall strength so when i push hard it feels like im riding on more tire than i actually am, great for feel, not great for the easily annoyed.
96cosmosM3 03-12-2005, 09:38 PM pirelli, toyo,and kumho's SUCK! ...
Really informative. Care to specify which models of pirelli, toyo, and kumho's you have had on your car and why they suck? Or do all tires from these manufacturers suck?
count_schemula 03-13-2005, 02:27 AM Many people I've met that have them, rave about the Kumho MX for the $$$.
Spencer 03-13-2005, 03:04 AM Kumho MX's and Falken Azeni Sports are the best dry grip tires for the money. There is NO debate to this. Just look at the ST classes at last year's SoloII national results.
If you are willing to spend some extra money, KD's, PS2's and S03's should be considered but you aren't going to be gaining any extra grip for the extra cash.
