So my wife and I are going to Oklahoma this weekend and we were hoping to take my car up there. My right rear tire has had a slow leak in it for a while, so I figured I should take care of it before going to Oklahoma. While I'm at Discount Tire, I figure it might be a good idea to get a rotation and balance done on my tires since it's been a while on that... surely they can't screw that up right?

Ha.

You all probably know how instead of wheel studs, the E36 has the reverse... threaded holes on the wheel hub, and lugs with a stud on the back end that screws into there. I'm not sure what they're called but that's not too important. The guy must have stuck the lug into the hole and gotten it started cross-threaded, then stripped the lug and the hub into oblivion with the airgun. And not one lug but on two of them...

They sort of managed to get one of them to go halfway in anyways, so I could at least drive the car home missing only one lug. And they referred me to a shop who will get me taken care of. But obviously I'm not taking the car to Oklahoma now, and I have to take it into a shop on Monday to get the wheel hub replaced. YAY!!! :rolleyes

.....hopefully at their expense.

I've dealt with DT for a few years now......new skins on my Honda twice and my gf's Eclipse just recently. No problems. Actually was very happy with their service.

Apparently, you got the shaft with a knucklehead that didn't know what he was doing. I trust the shop acknowleged their mistake and will make good on it.

Looks like you'll be taking the other car this weekend. Sorry, dude! :(

Yeah, of course they're paying for the repair. They referred me to a local shop and I've already made an appointment to get it fixed on Monday. They didn't exactly acknowledge the mistake, since they tried to explain it along the lines of age or crossthreading the last time the wheel was removed. But the last time that wheel was removed was by me and I know for a fact that all the lugs were fine and that I didn't crossthread any on the way back in. But they are at least acknowledging that something went wrong while under their care.

I've always had good experiences with Discount Tire as well, and honestly I'll probably still go back there. Just a mess I'd rather not have to deal with, which it seems was simply caused by carelessness on the tech's part.

I had already paid my $25 for the rotation/balance and flat repair... think I should have asked for a refund on that?

They did the same thing to AJ's car. He's still missing one lug on his front wheel because its stripped out. I think with school he hasn't had time to fix it.

Did Discount not offer to fix it for him?

Just a small update, my wife had to be at school early this morning so we couldn't bring my car to the shop. So I'm stuck without a car today and tomorrow for sure, and possibly more if they're unable to get it finished in one day tomorrow. :mad

He had to fight for it and they agreed but he's in school at TCU and the shop is all the way over in Flower Mound I think. He can't be without his car either so its not fixed.

Anybody heard of Ace Auto Tech & Cycle in Farmers Branch? That's where Discount Tire referred me to get it fixed, so I dropped it off at there this morning to get the wheel hub replaced. The guy at the shop seemed pretty cool and knowledgeable. He said next time I should watch them the whole time they're working on my tires cause this sort of carelessness happens ALL the time.

Usually Ace takes care of broken studs for free for Discount Tire since they refer a lot of alignment business to them, but he said this one's gonna cost them quite a bit. Maybe a $200 bill will make them a little more careful in the future. :evil2
