Ironic that this thread should be posted now, as I'm seriously considering moving to Houston for a career shift.
How's the city and car culture around there?
Is there a healthy track/autocross group, or is it mostly horsepower-crazed american car folks?

Not sure on the rest of that stuff but for tracks you're only a little over an hour away from Texas World Speedway.

houston is nice. Well sometimes. We have alot of humidity, and the sun blairs down on the city whenever it gets a chance to. The rain sucks, and with all the construction going around it makes driving a little irritating. I live in sugarland..its nice out here...more developed most construction is complete, and the people are great. Houston if full of all different types of people. We have our group of autocrossers, drifters, ricers, domestics, and euros. Everyone gets along when it comes to motor. I guess life is good, but i have been here way to long. Come on down, and join us all! :redspot

Houston has everything. Ocean 45 minutes away. 5 awesoem lakes under an hour away. Six flags theme parks, Nasa, tons of night life, great performing arts, the ABSOLUTE best medica facilities in the country (I have a niece that would not have lived had she been born anywhere else!) etc etc etc

The list goes on. As I understand it, the Houston chapter of BMWCCA is over 1000 strong!

You can live in a $30k home or a 3 million dollar home! Weather is decent more often than not, although it gets a little toasty for a few months. Less major devastating weatehr than other coastal cities.

The WOMEN .. well damn - come look for yourself. Name it and we have it. Technology is inexpensive and cost of living is very very low compared to rest of country.

If you need a realtor, PM me. My folks owns a Keller Williams in Katy. She has been doing this for over 15 years, and has the top producing office in Houston. Her team will take care of you, and they are very good with out-of-town buyers.

Live in Kingwood, work in the Woodlands, go to school at TAMU or UH (don't ask).

Maybe this thread will lead to more Houston people being active in this forum?

Don't listen to the Dallas folk contaminating this thread... Every person I have ever known from Dallas seriously looks down on Houston for some reason. :confused Are your streets lined with gold or something that I don't know about up there?

And as far as the racing goes, for several years I was racing three weekends a month, between the SCCA, BMWCCA, PCA, and Texas A&M SCC. So yes, there is *plenty* of motorsport action to be had. :D

Mac

P.S. Anyone attend the SCCA Auto-x today?

No, but our pockets are.....Haha. :lol

what he said. :stickoutt
My wife is from H town. It sucks. Every time we go back, I think "why does she love this place so much?" Then I realized, it's only because her family was there. We never go back anymore. Thank god. Not that I love Dallas. It's just better than Houston. Austin is better than Dallas, and Ft.Worth is probably my favorite.

I am perfectly willing to say that Dallas is a great city, better than Houston in many respects.

I just find it interesting that so many Dallas residents seem classically conditioned to view Houston as inferior. My GF has mentioned on a number of occasions how from childhood friends to her professional relationships, many, many Dallas folk (many of whom have never visited Houston) just have an innate dislike for Houston. I can't recall running across a Houstonian with the same emotions towards Dallas. I just find it kind of funny, and interesting. It seems like a one way rivalry or something. [/psychoanalysis of entire Dallas population]
