I'm wiring a radar and need a switched 12v around the console area. The overhead map light power will not work for what I'm doing. I know that the radio has an amp turn on lead but it seems to hard to get to with all the wires bundled. Is that the best place to find the 12v? Cig lighter is not switched... What color is the wire for the remote amp turn on anyhow? Any better suggestions? Thanks.

bump, I need to find a switched power source around the console as well
Do not use the remote turn on from the radio as a power source. Use the accessory wire behind the radio instead. That should be good for a radar detector.

The REM wire is white. But, you don't want to use that one. It's only hot when the ignition is ON and the radio is ON. Also, it has a very low signal and may not be able to turn on the amp and your radar detector at the same time.

use the headunit's switched turn on lead from the ignition...splice into it and use a 'reed relay' which can be bought from radio shack to power the load u have only if its below 2amps....reeds are very small and fast and quiet but they cannot handle more than 2amps for the version i am referring to....if u need further info let us know...
