I'm starting to get the rotten egg smell and the occasional lag in acceleration... so it looks like my cat's about to be in that great emissions heaven in the sky...

so if anyone has one used cheap, let me know :D thanks

My neighbor has about 12 of them. My dogs keep trying to eat them, but the're quick little fellows.....
What years are interchangable? I have a wrecked e30 that still has good cats. BUt is I were you I'd look up some OBDII cats on the internet, and have a muffler shop weld it in. Should be less than $75 for the cat. Hell a muffler shop will probably have what you need and do it all for $150.
God luck. If you still want some of my nieghbors cats your welcome to them. When I catch them, I give them a bath in the pool. They looooove baths. :redspot

lmao.. well if you get a few cats we can hook up some stirfry or somethin ;)

but i am just really looking for a stock replacement.. i'm not really heavily modding or racing or auto-x'ing my car.. it's just my daily driver that i need to be running reliably :D

Are you certain it's the cats that are causing the problem? I thought catalytic converters were designed to last the life of the vehicle, exceeding 150,000 miles even. Not to say that a rich fuel mixture wouldn't shorten their lifespan, but I think I'd replace an O2 sensor before a converter, unless you'd had your emissions confirm the cat was bad..

rotten egg smell plus a little acceleration lag, both occasional... those are signs of the cat, not the o2, however the o2 may have caused the early deterioration as you said...

Find yourself the 96+ M3/328 cats... supposed to flow much better. I heard something about the cats being "self-healing" though :dunno

hmmm... i thought it was the o2 too.... might as well do both. my friend owns a muffler shop. he has aftermarket cats fro cheap. I put one one of my cars before. forgot what brand, but it was like 80 bucks

I was at a muffler shop a couple weeks ago getting some welding done (unassociated w/my car) that had a huge placard by Flowmaster in the waiting area. Basically it said (in huge Block Letters)
"So you've replaced your Catalytic converter? Make sure you don't have to replace it again! Catalytic converters should NEVER wear out unless there is SOMETHING ELSE WRONG WITH YOUR VEHICLE. If you have replaced your converter, make sure that you FIX THE PROBLEM THAT CAUSED IT TO FAIL IN THE FIRST PLACE, or you will be replacing it AGAIN soon."
Then it went on to list the various compnents/conditions that caused them to fail, etc. I remember that O2 sensors, bad rings/valves were towards the top of the list, along with incorrectly adjusted carbs, etc. that we don't have on our cars. It was pretty stern, and served no sales agenda I could discern. Basically they were saying "Here's how NOT to buy our product again."

anyone know how many o2 sensors are on a '94 325i?

i would only really need to worry most about the pre-cat o2's right?

I think only 1 or 2. OBD1 cars (pre '96) don't have the post-cat O2 sensors.

the m50 has 1 o2 sensor. if you ohm pin 3 and 4 aka heater element it should be short. if its open the sensor is bad.

Will the one of my 95 m3 work. I am putting a aa track pipe on and if I like the sound and can pass my inspection I'm sure we can work something out. Does any one have the aa track pipe in dfw? Does it drone real bad on the highway?
