I was wondering how will you know the engine water and oil temperature in the E90. I know that the E46 has the water temp. but the gauge is removed in the E90.

probably replaced with 'idiot lights'. Most drivers really don't care to know that information until something has gone wrong anyway.

What are idiot lights? Is it the ones built in the M series cars? I know the instruments are the same as the new 5 and 6 series. Does anybody know where the temperature are shown in those cars? I am thinking about getting E92 coupe when it comes out so I am just checking things out right now...

Idiot lights normally replace guages as the typical driver doesn't care to see a guage unless something goes wrong. So what they do is they remove the guage and replace it with a warning light. Whenever the temperature exceeds a certain amount, a big bright red (idiot) light appears on the dash to tell the driver ... HEY, something is wrong!

the e90 has the M3 type temp guage...where the lights receade...on the RPM guage as the temp goes up

is that confirmed or are you just guessing? Does the 5 series have the M3 style RPM lights? I LOVE THOSE!

Apparently BMW says that "we decided not to put in the water temperature because the driver does not need to know it. The car can be taken to redline as soon as it is started up, even if it is a cold start". They said that the polizei do that all the time and they have never mentioned any problems. Call me old fashioned but I would rather warm my car up for a period of 10 to 16 minutes in invy conditions.
