View Full Version : E36 vs. Mazda 6
heifetz17 02-26-2005, 04:11 AM I believe it was the 2.3 Mazda 6. I tried to pass him and he downshifted and accelerated a little bit like he wanted to play. By chance, we both got stopped at a light ahead. When it turned green, we both gunned it. I got him off the line and at first I thought he was going to pass me, but I stayed ahead and started pulling on him. Through first, second, third, and I shut it down about 1 1/2 cls ahead. He caught up and yelled out his window "I like your car, is that the 2.8?" and I said "Thanks, it's the 2.5". He gave me a thumbs up and took off. We turned opposite directions and I finished my trip home. That was fun. My first run with a Mazda. Those 6's aren't too bad, really.
giterdone 02-26-2005, 12:58 PM I forget what their numbers are, but they are like a decently powered v6 (I think it is pushrod). It is probably a drivers race between your cars.

NY330xi 02-26-2005, 02:00 PM If it was the 2.3L Mazda 6, its only got 160 hp and around the same in tq....the 3.0 V6 puts out 220 hp/192 tq and most of the car mags manage to get the 5 speed at around 7.0, 15.4. Real world, I dont think it is that fast b/c my buddy has one and we've played around a little bit in my Prelude, and I easily beat him everytime....
BuddaLun 02-26-2005, 05:25 PM Ya those cars are slow woth both power lnats. Buncha chicks I know own em. ;)
Atleast the girls were good looking...
The cars are UGLY. I felt akward every time I was in one of those damn cars.
heifetz17 02-26-2005, 10:43 PM Maybe it was the 3 liter then? That could be why he was asking if I had teh 2.8. I'm not sure which engine it had.

Your car should hang with the V6.
racerm3 02-27-2005, 12:08 AM My good buddy has a Mazda 6 (v6 3.0 liter) with catback exhuast, intake and a computer upgrade or flashed computer and he is hard to beat.
But I get him all the time but it is always close though.
Ohh....he has an automatic! Same mods on a 5pd would take me all day :mad
Those cars are very nice and have alot of cool features but it is still a FORD :nono

well no offense to you at all. But you have a 323. So that gives me less respect for that car since he has all those mods and still gets beat.
But Mazda is Ford? OMG that is horrible. :)
BIMMERBOYZ 02-27-2005, 12:31 AM Hey did it have dual exhaust or not the 3.0 have dual and the others don't. :buttrock

I dont know if you know this but even a race between a 328 and a 323 is a drivers race. I have driven a 328 and barely could tell the difference :rolleyes
Another nonbeliever in the 323 power :nono
racerm3 02-27-2005, 01:09 AM Mazda is owned by Ford.
The engine of the Mazda 6 is a MUTT! The block is from the 3 liter ford probe engine and up top is designed by Mazda.

Ummm.....just looking at the numbers...I know this is paper racing but....
1999's(stats from www.autos.msn.com)
328is:
hp 190
tq 206
weight: 3142
323is:
hp 168
tq 181
weight: 3075
It shoudln't be a drivers race, unless it is a good driver vs a bad one.
CdnR328i 02-27-2005, 03:20 AM Both the 4cyl and the 6cyl Mazda 6 have dual exhausts. Should be a good run between the 6cl and an inline 6. My vote goes to the BMW's....but still close enough to make it fun.
With the OEM skirt pkg, I think they look alright to tell you the truth.
Watch out for the new MazdaSpeed 6!!! AWD turbo with 280hp. Should give many of us a run for our money!!! If not a spanking! 0-100 times are in the low to high 5's!!! Zoom, Zoom.

heifetz17 02-27-2005, 05:38 AM It must have been the 3.0 then because it was a pretty close outcome. It hung with me pretty good.

you mean kilometers right? What is 100kms in mph? Is that almost 60mph?
CdnR328i 02-27-2005, 11:51 AM Sorry to all my American counterparts. To clarify.
100km/hr = 62miles/hr
Often, magazines post 0-60mph times. So the run to 100km/hr would be a tenth or a hundreth of a second more. Many Euro mags give numbers in metric too.

giterdone 02-27-2005, 12:49 PM hehe thank you for the clarification. Actually when I left earlier to head to the gym and looked at my speedo, and realized 100k/m was just above 60. :) I tell ya, when you go around writing 0-100km/hr it makes it sounds super quick ;)
mihalis 02-27-2005, 06:20 PM Nice Kill, yeah it was probably the 6 v6 stick, good job beating it. Those are not bad cars at all, I think we can all remember the MazdaRevItUp Competition... :) they are fun to drive. I ran a V6 6 on the highway one time, it had no chance in hell but it did okay vs my car, just the govern hit him at around 120 or so. ;)

:lol
LOL
BTW what about the Mazda Speed 6? I heard that is supposed to push like 350 some hp and it's also light. That should be interesting.
NY330xi 02-28-2005, 08:55 PM MazdaSpeed 6.... 2.3L Turbo 4....280hp/280 lb-ft...weight around 3550 lbs....I'd say it'll run 5.3, high 13's/low 14s w/ AWD launch.
