Yesterday was the first day in about a week that it was dry and the sun was shining. I was getting pretty sick of the rain, yes I know were spoiled in SoCal. I had the windows down just enjoying the weather. I pulled up to the light just as it changed green and there was a few cars in front of me a little ways ahead. A white v6 mustang pulls next to me who has 2 passengers I had 1. I didnt think anything of it until I noticed the passenger was looking at my car laughing. We were just rolling along in second and I hear him downshift to 1st then spin the tires. I just stayed in second and wound it out and by the time I shifted to third he was pretty far back. I would like to have messed with him more but I had to change lanes and hop on the freeway and he got stuck behind a van or something and went the other way. I know beating an economy mustang is nothing but when they laugh at you and think they are fast you have to show them whats up. Its funny how many people dont know what M means lol.

Maybe his friend was laughing after the driver said, "I think my 'stang is faster than that BMW M3!" Way to show them what an inline six can do.

I find alot of people challenge me, knowing they will get beat. I think they just want to see how fast the M3 is. Anyway....nice run.

It's really the truth when people say, "they just wanna see how fast your car is".

I can't count the numbers of times when I drive the Z06 that people try and instigate a race just to hear my Borla scream at 6G.

You're right. I have challenged cars I know can take me just to see them run. It's all in fun.

I egged on a silver Ferrari while driving from Germany to England (this happened in France somewhere). It was worth it to hear him take off with my windows down. My vehicle? A '99 VW Golf, diesel, with 160,000 miles on it. :)

^^ :lol that is great.

On the thread though, I don't think he was just trying to get the M3 to take off, because normally, people just rev their engine give you a look, why would he drop it to 1st and spin his tires? That is normally a sign he was actually trying to race you. or he is just a dork. :)

I have had guys in those old 5.0 coupes mustangs laugh and incite flagrancy at me while I was driving in the 2003 M5!!! and i have had a guy in a 5.0 almost rear end me on a highway, flash lights then swerve around me, almost lose control then creep past at wot, while I am just in the slow lane like "yeah, buddy just go ahead, don't want any trouble, bye bye then!!!"
around where I live it is literally war with any Mustang, i have gotten so much flak from those guys, i just try to avoid them at all costs, even though the guys that dissed the M5 ahd some amazingly fast cars, w/e

You can do to 1st, if you rev-match perfectly, it just isn't easy....

hmmmm....well I woudln't want to do it, just throwing it in 2nd will usually suffice.

I don't understand what you guys are talking about. I downshift into first gear all the time. Am I missing something, such as the "you can't put it in first gear unless you are stopped" synchro?

I think it depends on your model, I know I can put stick it into first in my zhp without any trouble. I am not certain at what speed... I remember in my Integra (and all hondas really) you can't put it into first unless you are stoped. It used to piss me off since Hondas are such torque monsters ;)

Double clutch & you won't have any problems getting to 1st. Also, that's much easier on the synchros... I do it all the time...

I know what you mean, but what chaz and dave are talking about is when the car is still in motion at a few mph, you shouldn't put the car into 1st gear to accelerate. You can downshift to first gear while the car is in motion; however, it isn't a good idea unless you can rev match it perfectly or release the clutch ever so slowly.

Once (around 99 I think) I was riding along on I-94 in Detroit with my friend in his '94 cavalier (RIP) with 250k miles on it, and we pulled up alongside a Viper GTS, blue with white stripes. We did the whole yo-yo thing and turned down the radio and opened the windows (it was 10 deg outside). That thing was gone in about a half a second (I mean gone) and it sounded SOOOOOOOOOOO badass. Sick. :buttrock

I could downshift to first while rolling in both my NSX and my 930. I seem to remember my M3 not liking it though.

You can down shift to 1st in any car. Dont slam it though. You gotta put it in 1st slowly then apply preasure untill it goes in. Every car I have had can do that, from my 81 diesel jetta, to my 84 supra, to my 2000 Si, to my M3. Cant be going very fast while doing it though...

Hey "agmobb" do you have tinted windows, because if you don't my be they were laughing at you. Just kidding man. I would smile with excietment when I try to go up against a much better car but never laugh or may be someone just cracked a joke or farted.

But I guess you had the last laugh! Nice Kill.
