Its amazing, but I still find hill climb events inviting. We'll see what this elevation change is. If theres a significant change in elevation, its going to favor F.I sooooo much. Thus attracting me there.

that would be so cool if they would build it. Then I would have 3 tracks all within 2 hours of me and then this being only 3 or 4 hours away.

Time for a track car if this happenes

hate to break it to you guys...this project died several months ago.

basically, local politics were making it an impossible project.

Are you sure? This is the response to my email in early July: "thank you for your interest. This project like many of its kind has grown into something much more than originally planned. Construction should start in the next two months with completion in time for 2008 season. Once things get underway we will be upgrading the website and will have regular updates to our progress. Thank you"

well...after googling it i found several articles.

some say it is moving along...others say it is on hold until a plethora of topics get ironed out.

i hope positive ones are correct.

Grading had begun on the project, but a small "historic preservation group" has had it tied up in court...or at least that is what I was told by an SCCA source who is close to the project.

That info was told to me about six weeks ago.

I'm checking it out now, but about 2 weeks ago I was there, and saw that the grading had begun with my own eyes.

According the the "preservation group," the track is being built on a Revolutionary War battleground site, and as I understand it, this group opposes everything that ever happens in that part of the county.

I was at the Rowan County Commission meeting the night the track was approved, and the community as a whole is quite pleased with the idea. In fact, many citizens were there that evening, and expressed thier view of it being an economic boost to the community.

Again, I will report back when I find out something definite, but I believe this track project may be simply tied up somewhat frivilously, and the community support for it will probably win out.

Sweet. Thanks for the update. I know an organizer of HPDEs in NC has talked with the owners and has commited to several dates a year.

Thanks JByrd.

That's good news. I know where the track is being built, so I'll have to slow down through there on my next trip down I-85 to take a look at the progress.

I just got a note from a friend who works for one of the Nextel cup teams.

Today, he had contact with Company officials developing Highrock, and the project is definitely still on.

Schedule for completion was not discussed.

As time goes on, and as I learn more about the construction of the project, hold-ups, etc.....I will post.

Didn't realize there was this much interest in Highrock...this is good.

Yeah I just got an email from my contact there and they said any info on their demise was premature.

This link was sent to me a while ago; it's mostly 1year+ old articles, but here it is anyway.

The track would be very close to school and home for me, plus there is a lot of interest from the BMW crowd in Winston and Charlotte; we're pulling for this to happen.

I drive by this mon-fri because I work a mile down the road from where the track is gonna be. I have noticed some people surveying the land and working inside the old finishing factory... they have to tear down a big factory and a dye plant before they start building...

I'll keep you guys updated if i notice anything big going on...
