View Full Version : e36 M3 spanked by a Crown Vic
giterdone 02-23-2005, 09:49 PM *Knock on wood* Before I even start. I was driving home from hanging out with some friends. I went down the Springfield Parkway (speed limit is 50). Honestly I had no clue about the speed limit. But I passed the onramp for Frontier Drive (I've never went back this way, I didn't know what road I needed). I ended up driving quite a ways past and got off on the first street I found. I turned around and waited at a light. I turn back left to go back in the opposite direction, this time seeking Frontier because I know I need it. I was going relatively fast I guess, but I wans't really paying attention. I was just watching traffic, making sure to stay away from it. Well I come up to a light and am just chilling. It turns green, and I take off, didn't launch, but stayed on the gas, I got to the top of 2nd, and went ot third, and guess I kept accelerating slowly. I hit the offramp, and pull up to the light. After I sit there for a bit, I look in my mirror and notice that the car bheind me (about the size of a crown vic) has a little box in the passenger side of the windshield. I've seen these boxes, becasue the PSU (protective services unit) uses crown vics for their cops and they ahve boxes the same way. I realized it was a cop. Still not knowing I did anything wrong, I go at green, a S2000 is in front of me, but after realizing it's a cop, I wasn't going to do anything, this S2000 drags me through a lane, that I have to hurriedly get over becasue the turn lane we were in turns into another turn lane,k so I have to hop traffic in front of hte cop. I come up to my turn light, still going easy, and right as I make the turn he pulls me over.
The cop walks up and says "Before I do anything, let me ask you what you think the speed limit on the Parkway is?" I answer, "Uhh...I honestly don't know what the speed limit is." So he goes "Do you think it's 70?" I ask, "Did I really hit 70?" (I honestly didn't know, I wasn't paying attention). He says I was pulling from him when he was doing 70. But then I ask him what it was and he says it was 50. He says that 20 over in Virginia is wreckless driving, and it is like a class 1 misdemeanor or something. But it is along the same lines as driving on a suspended license, or without a license. So I was getting worried. He asks where I'm from and answer Florida. When he asks what I'm up here for I say active duty, and tell him I'm working at Fort Belvoir. My hotel was like 3 blocks from where I got stopped (he asked where I was staying). But he goes away, and when he comes back he tells me that he is going to give me a warning, but to slow it down, because it is in the computer that he let me off on a 70 in a 50 ticket. But he was feeling sorry since I'm a young guy in the Army just doing something royally stupid. I am glad that officer was a compassionate guy.
Moral of the story: You can't outrun those guys in blue.
But see, this is why Summit Point needs to have their FATT (friday at the track)....that is there Driver Expereince. I want to be able to get all my need for speed there, so I don't have to do this crap on the road, where I have to worry about getting a ticket or jail time.

giterdone 02-23-2005, 10:13 PM Bad Boy!!!! :nono
yes I know :(
Nice kill!
Would that really be a kill or a death? :stickoutt
Well I guess the initial was a kill since he said I was pulling on him at 70. :) But he got me in the twisties ehehe.
DirtyHarry 02-24-2005, 01:50 AM Very cool that he gave you a warning and can respect a military guy.
slickav 02-24-2005, 02:09 AM Naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"My sergeant told me to present you my military card anytime I get pulled over."
Works every time. And no, I do not speak from experience, so yes, I am making an ass out of myself.
Magoozle 02-24-2005, 03:18 AM I was with my buddy, he got pulled and handed the officer his air force military card. The officer just kinda looked at it then he says, "What do you want me to do with this?" So of course he says, "I thought I was supposed to give you this, thats what I was told". Then the bastard says, "Well shit this aint gonna help you this time". What a prick! True story.
Damn dude you got lucky, I'd say its a kill. :)
kindtree 02-24-2005, 03:23 AM Yeah you got lucky. My friend stationed out there got pulled over doing 80-some on the freeway. I guess that's wreckless driving and they don't play around about it...
He's going to court in a couple days I think, if he hasn't gone already.
Depends on the cops mood I guess.... If h didn't get any nookie last night you would probably have gotten a ticket :D
Cops are the same everywhere.
giterdone 02-24-2005, 01:18 PM yeah, before i used to hand y license w/ my military id card underneath it. Some cops would just look at it and walk away, others would comment on it. Then I've had theo nes that are like "What do you hand me this for? Do you think just because your in the Army you can do what you want?"
But I've gnerally found that just being polite to the guy. He was asking why I was in a hurry, I said no reason, "I missed my exit, and I honstly wasn't paying attention. It isn't a valid excuse, but it is all I can say." I said I dind't know the speed limit becasue I hardly use it, and he said it was my responsiblity as a driver to be observant of the signs posted on it, I agreed with him and repeatedly said yes sir. Since I'm young, it seems to work better being polite, than being some snotty little brat. :)
IS 300_M 02-24-2005, 02:37 PM if i was the cop, i would have done the same thing. i always have great respect for the guys in the military  .....just don't let this happen to you again :pullover :D

I don't plan on it, but I'm just hoping it doesn't happen. I try and keep my speed down, just sometimes insanely slow or bad drivers normally irritate me, and i try to fly by them to get away from them. Other times i just get a itch for speed. I want to get some driver expereinces, and lose that need for speed on the road that everybody says happens to them after they leave the track.
Croak 02-24-2005, 04:54 PM Maybe times have changed, but when I was in the Corps, you could expect NO slack from the police anywhere near a military town, and in many cases quite the opposite.
Get away from the bases though, and it changed, since the local police didn't have to put up with drunk GI's on a regular basis.

Oh I know. I wasn't expecting slack, I was actually figuring he was going to be a jerk, because I figured he would have to deal with us damn bastards in green all the time. But I guess I just got lucky. Well I know I did, and i don't wanna push my luck.
Phat Ham 02-24-2005, 05:44 PM He says that 20 over in Virginia is wreckless driving, and it is like a class 1 misdemeanor or something. But it is along the same lines as driving on a suspended license, or without a license. Yes, in Virginia 20 over or anything over 80 is reckless driving. Reckless driving is a criminal offense class 1 misdemeanor. To put this in perspective a DUI is also a class 1 misdemeanor.
One of the interns that worked in my office last summer was telling me he got 2 reckless driving tickets. He got off pretty easy on the first one, but for the second one he got raped. Apparently his crappy lawyer pissed off the DA and he got the book thrown at him. He had the choice of spending the weekend in jail or doing community service on top of a 90 day suspended license and a $300 or so fine. He chose the community service but he says he should've just done the weekend in jail and gotten it over with.
JSillyM3 02-24-2005, 05:58 PM Ive been smashed by a supercharged crown vic before. It wasnt pretty!!

yes you can ;)
KMK454 02-24-2005, 06:17 PM Ah, I love the whole "I'm in the Army, have mercy on me," bit. Works very well :buttrock
giterdone 02-24-2005, 06:55 PM yes you can ;)
ok well yes technically you can. But it definately isn't smart too, especially if your just getting pulled for speeding.
Ah, I love the whole "I'm in the Army, have mercy on me," bit. Works very well
Yes, yes I know. Luckily I am still young (20) and have an even younger appearance so my career in the military is still pretty fresh (just over 3 yrs) and I definately don't want to get it messed up due to the fact I got busted for reckless driving, especially when I wasn't even racing anybody. :) I mean that definately wouldn't look good now that I'm going for my top secret clearance.
"top-secret clearance" Sounds James Bond like :D
raveadelic 02-24-2005, 07:24 PM yeah i agree, morale of the story: use your credentials when you can :buttrock lucky bastard
PePsI BlUe E36 03-02-2005, 09:17 AM my brother always gets away with using his id. just make sure its very visable when u open your wallet. or act like u cant find ur license and give them the id then say, " oh wait here it is "

you got it down. this time I had my wallet sitting on my lap with it still open enough to see the id, when I said I was in the military, he was like "Can I see..." and I started to shift to grab the ID and he noticed it. So then he didn't worry about it. But before, my original drivers license I had spiked bleached hair (not my favorite hair style) but so I would hand my military license, and say this if for a more "current" picture. Or I would act liek i didn't mean to hand both. :)
DerekVa 03-02-2005, 12:59 PM The state doesn't care if you are a member of the armed forces; you aren't above the law and going 20MPH over the speed limit is reckless driving. Take the warning as a karmic kick in the head and obey the traffic signs (or at least stay within 10-15%). If you can't, then don't count on your military credentials to bail you out. Just because you happened to get a cop who felt lenient, doesn't mean you will the next time. :)

ummmmmmm.......no crap. I already said I was lucky, and that I know it doesn't work all the time. This has already been discussed throughout the thread. I said I was lucky I ran into a nice cop, I was glad he wans't a dick.
I know(now) 20 over is wreckless driving. You don't have to tell me. I never said I counted on my military "credentials" (it isn't like I am an MP or a CID agent...so it's not really creds) to bail me out. Sometimes they help sway the judgement in my favor, so I used them.
Phat Ham 03-02-2005, 02:11 PM wreckless driving. There is no "w" in reckless driving. wreckless driving means driving without getting into a wreck. reckless driving is driving indifferent to or disregardful of consequences. The one you get a ticket for is the latter. I still can't believe how many people do not understand this.

I hate to be the one to break the bad news to you, but in this case, it is reckless driving. Just thought I'd let you know. And don't ask how I know. :(

giterdone 03-02-2005, 03:40 PM lol ok sorry. I am a dumbass. I didn't realize it was reckless. Thankyou for correcting me. I guess I'll make sure to pay attention on which one I'm typing. ;)
