Let me get this straight, you are asking the State to allow us to remove the front license plates that are used by DPS to right MORE tickets with the laser guns making MORE money for the State? Hmmm .. They might go for it.
Tickets are big money for DPS, however DPS also uses every excuse in the book to pull someone over. Once on the side of the road, they can/will run for warrants, drug checks, etc, etc. And the successful hit rate is amazing! My old neighbor was DPS, and he says not a day goes by where at least one normal traffic stop doesn't results in an arrest. cha-ching! Job Security!

Oh wait, the State also sells those plates to us, making more money. Hmm..

Okay (stepping down from soap box again State logic), what is the logical reason for removing the plates? While I am for it, it is like talking to my kids. They WANT to remove it, but they certainly do not NEED to remove it. There are lots of reason, most of which are BS, to have it, but very few to remove it.

When is the last time a LP can flying off during a wreck and killed a bus full of nuns? When is the last time a front LP caused any trouble in public?

Like I said, I do not agree with why we have them, I would honestly rather our small-minded law officials concentrate (they need all the help they can get) on laws and changes that are even remotely useful into making this place a safer place.

I saw this petition on bavarianspeed.com so I posted it here. LOL that stuff on the petition is pretty much poop. I just want to remove my front plate, looks like poop.

Just think of how many e-mails they've procured with this petition and now they can go out and sell them, many times over, and make a few hundred and or maybe a few thousands of dollars

The judge said it was not like inspection in that you can't just add it, pay a paperwork fee and go away. He had to pay the money, even after TRYING to explain that the dealership never provided him with a front LP.

It also is SUPPOSED to block laser hits by redirecting the beam elsewhere :buttrock . Users of the Lasers are trained to aim at a flat surface to get a good return signal. On most new cars the only flat surface is the LP, which is what DPs is trained to aim at.

i am almost positive that the front plate fine is $110... that is a flat amount.. i got a no cats ticket from DPS and it was $135 i believe... the front plate isn't more ;) ... but it is just an equipment issue (which doesn't affect insurance)... and some judges throw it out if you 'correct it'.. some don't.. it's not a guarantee...

fyi the cover for the LP is illegal in texas as of last year... any cover is illegal, even a clear one

I received a citation last month in Plano 76 in a 60 (Central Expressway), about $160 fro speeding and I also received a ticket for the no Teaxs Drivers license (Colorado Lic) that was about $150.

He also stated, "Did you know you're supposed to have a front plate" I told him that's the way it came when I bought it. He probably felt my wallet was hurting enough and didn't write me up for the front plate.

With the deffered disposition it came out to over $350 in citations :eek:

You are correct. I called my friend tonight to find out the cost. He paid $250, but only $150 was for the LP. He apparently had a "few other issues" that cost the extra $100. Oops!

I've thought about getting a euro looking plate with my license plate numbers on it. That way it looks cool and is still SORTA legal

That's all the Plano police do, traffic citations. I'm not even going to bother signing the petition cus it's not going to work.

Heres what you do. You get personalized plates that read 8BB 88B :) It confuses the shit out of the police and will get you pulled at least twice a day.

If the State sez the plate fee is, say, $50 for two, who's to say it won't remain $50 for 1? The State would save approximately $4.84M/yr if they dropped front plates: "Each year we issue 8 million new plates around the state of Texas and our per-plate cost is $1.21."

I signed it, but it won't do any good. Just another revenue producer in MANY ways. I have not run one on many vehicles and just kept it under my seat and put it in the windshield when I came close a few times. The officer didn't seem to know the exact law and just let me go out of fustration I imagine.

My Air Force base is saying I have to have a front plate by the end of the week or I cannot come through the gate. I have it laying up on my dash right now and I take it down when I leave. What a crock. I hate front plates. The gate gaurds are so gay you would think they are real cops or something.
