MODS

M3: 3.5'' HFM, CAI, Stickley Chip, 24# Injectors

WRX: up pipe, down pipe, cat-back, software, and boosted to 1 bar, maybe intake.

So my friend, in the WRX, and I were leaving the auto-x event together and begins to toy with me my blowing-off. Well we both stopped together at a stop sign and both pulled away like we weren't planning on anything, but as we shifted into 2nd we both hit.

We were pretty much even throughout 2nd until he hit his limiter and fell back to my rear bumper :lol but was able to hang on. The race continues half-way through 4th and basically ends the same way it began him at my rear bumper. So I'm basically thinking we're even.

I personally thought that he would pull on me easily with the exhaust work and that much boost, but I guess not.

If he were a STi then he probably would've whooped up on ya, but since he was a WRX it hindered his ability. But good kill and way to keep up the good name of the M3. ;)

Nice, I raced a modded WRX one time and pretty much had the same outcome, dead even to third until I hit forth, then I started really pulling on him. Nice race though, as they say $hit happens [referring to the limiter]

Isn't the WRX all wheel drive?

If so, I wonder what the outcome would have been if you had started from a dead stop, versus a roll-on.

Either way, nice. The close ones are always more fun. :buttrock

From a dead stop it usually goes to the Subaru... but the AWD costs them big at high speeds, 100+mph and they start struggling.

I ran a lightly modded STi a few weeks ago (funny enough on the way to an Auto-X event) and he held up ok for a few seconds there on the low end, but it got really ugly by the time we hit triple digits. This was with me on motor of course.

Yah...about 6,000 miles ago. My new motor feels a lot stronger.

Nice race, I have wondered what a modded WRX would be like to race against a M3..

Oh, just found out for surw he has software. But I guess that was a given since he is boosted.

WRX......M3 would win. STi, depends on mods. I ran one on the interstate. He was at least lightly modded (he had aftermarket exhaust) and it depended on who got hte jump on the go when we ran each other. It was pretty close. I didn't race him from a dig. But STi's are very formidable.

Speaking from the WRX camp. When I had the mods listed above I was able to walk 330s 5-speeds into the 120's. I never had the chance to run with a E36 M3, but I assume the better power and gearing would've been a much closer match.

At the time I could muster 97mph traps at LACR, 3700 ft irrc. (13.65 1/4).

Now, with an upgraded turbo (16g), injectors and another tune, I can keep up with my buddies E46 SMG to 110. We haven't taken it further.
I was at approx 245whp (low calibrated dynojet at 1500ft) when we last raced. Currently 260whp after I put my header and another retune. He also recently upgraded his header and exhaust. I'm hoping we're still about even.
