View Full Version : !VIDS! 3.9L battle cry! !VIDS!
DefactoM6 02-16-2005, 08:56 PM I went over to the candy shop today...wait, i mean ICS...:D
I took her out on the road for the 1st time in almost 4 months, so even though I was at 50% throttle max, under 3,500RPM and under 40mph in the rain...it was still fun :D. Then when we pulled inside, I decided that Brian's digicam would be put to better use capturing some video for you guys rather than sitting on his desk....so here you go! Enjoy...
The 3.9L S38 revving under 4,250 RPM, right click and save as (http://www.icsperformance.com/M6.MPG)
As far as the exhaust setup, it sounds really good right now, it's just a tad bit raspy, so we're going to cure that with a short, 3" diameter resonator, which will be supplemented by an additional resonated cat-elimination setup when the government isn't forcing me to do a show for the earth fairies....:D
Also, the intake setup is still being done, so that too will change...so although she sounds nice right now, expect her to change quite a bit as she progresses...remember, the car has a very small amount of road time, and running time...it takes break-in for them to really 'sound right'.
Again, tell me what you think, and enjoy :D
bmw335ist 02-16-2005, 09:04 PM I have not been Following the project. Are you going to turbo in the future or keep it N/A.
T-Rex 02-16-2005, 09:07 PM Damn that thing sounds menacing! Congrats on finally getting it running again, when do you expect to have the final setup installed and completed?
highboostingm3 02-16-2005, 09:12 PM It sounds very nice for right now. It's just really good to see it in video form and hear it a little finally! :D
So I don't remember reading about the exhaust. What is on there right now from headers back?

It's from the headers into larger diameter collectors. Then the two collector pipes meet and dump into a 3" straight back setup with a single oval Magnaflow straight-through 3" oval muffler out back (not sure of length and width, i think a 6"x18"? Ask the George man...It's a very nice setup, a small (4" or 6") 3" straight-through resonator will take care of alot of the annoying raspiness, while still having every bit of edginess it currently exhibits, maybe even more, since the setup will most likely deepen the tone. Also, there will be a resonated section where I can swap a cat in and out, so this will further help matters.
CDCJON551 02-16-2005, 09:43 PM I want candy also!!!!!!! go turbo
DefactoM6 02-16-2005, 10:01 PM patience, young grasshopper...the lords of FI that watch over us will soon bless me with boost, with the goodness and wisedom in their hearts....
but not on this motor....:D....not as of now, at least :stickoutt
dtmbimmer 02-16-2005, 10:19 PM car sounds awesome....goerge really knows how to make them sound amazing....
JamesM3M5 02-16-2005, 10:27 PM That is awesome, purely awesome.
Glad I have that S38B38 sitting on a pallet in my garage. I think I'm going to keep my M5 all original but turn my brother's beat up E28 M5 into a racecar or another E28 535is that we have into street beast with it. Cams, Motec, custom exhaust, and we'll have to get together to play sometime ;)
DefactoM6 02-16-2005, 10:49 PM We certainly will...I actually need to talk suspensions with you...now my car vs. your car (completed) could make for quite the showdown :D...starts devising evil plans for a old school M restomod showdown :D
gol10dr1 02-16-2005, 10:52 PM SPOOGE!!! :bj
97Calypso328I 02-16-2005, 10:54 PM It sounds so good right now I wouldn't touch it

DefactoM6 02-17-2005, 12:42 AM Thanks guys...
And I'll see how the sound changes as it breaks in...you never know, I may end up keeping it the way it is with the exception of a resonator insert where the hi-flow cats go when it comes time to make uncle sam happy :D
card counter 02-17-2005, 04:55 AM Dont forget the shifter. Car sounds great but who is the guy with his finger stuck in the throttle linkage :lol :lol
DefactoM6 02-17-2005, 06:06 AM some crazy malaka we had to pry off of the motor to keep from revving it ;) ;) :D
and Ulysses, your shifter for my car is coming...that's right, I bought a shifter specifically for your use while driving my car...so I can protect her :D
GG///M3 02-17-2005, 01:03 PM The motor sounds like a true beast, do i smell an S38 turbo soon? :D

DefactoM6 02-17-2005, 07:50 PM it will be something to behold...if you capture alot of video of your car when it's done, and combined with the video I'll inevitably end up getting of it, send it over, I'll put a 'lil something together for you :D
de Witt 02-17-2005, 09:08 PM Are you running with the motronic right now?
DefactoM6 02-17-2005, 09:44 PM Yeah, the autronics couldn't go in fast enough, I figured it would be best to get 'some' mileage on it first...it just won't be as much as originally planned, but it will be something nonetheless...which will mean easier tuning later down the road...
S0nik 02-18-2005, 08:11 AM Jesus. :eyecrazy
Wish I had that motor in my car .. is that running straight pipes? Good lord its loud! I think it eats small children

DefactoM6 02-18-2005, 12:34 PM It's running a single straight-through magnaflow muffler right now...and I haven't seen George's nephew in a while...certainly not since the M6 has been breathing...since you brought it up, I'm starting to worry that I created too much of a monster :stickoutt...
