View Full Version : the air filters you're using
Flip_Side_the_Pint 02-16-2005, 06:40 PM I'm curious to see what air filters you guys are using on your turbos and S/Cers.
I forgot I didn't have one and now need to buy one. I was looking at the ITG filters. Also I'm considering the blitz SUS for that pimp factor.

IIRC, highboostingm3 has one...
I've seen tests, and the HKS did much poorer than cheaper models like K&N.
icemann633 02-21-2005, 12:47 PM I need a short and fat filter what do you guys recommend?
I have ZKWs and they push the K&N back so far that it pinches the rubber neck after the HFM...

Have you checked ALL the possible K&N sizes before determining they dont have one that fits your application? IF you give the dimensions you require I bet I can find a K&N that fits your needs :)
ZeroG 02-21-2005, 01:09 PM what is S&b and where do you get it?
I am in Southern Cali, and the name of the place was called Hawaii Racing. I am sure that they are a big company and can be found at most racing shops. S&B is another one of the K&N rip off companies they just improved the design. The filter has a 3.5 inch hole to hook up your intake tube, and it is just a generic 8 inch coned filter. I have it barried down by the brake duct with 3.5 inch tubing that goes around the Elipsoids.

I know K&N makes a size for me...they have a million...
I was just wondering if someone had the product number off hand...
And i was also considering different options like ITG foam filters...

K&N has dozens of filters with a 3.5" mount flange! Mine is just one of them :) YOu can get Cylinder shapes with no taper in different lengths; Cone shapes with different amounts of taper, and different size mount flanges, etc, etc, etc.. Nobody offers NEARLY the selection of K&N....
>>S&B is another one of the K&N rip off companies they just improved the design<<
Right... and we KNOW this design is improved on the K&N design because... they say so in their marketing materials? ;)

Paul,
Of course it says it is better in the market materials as does every filter manufacturer out there. I have had both K&N and the S&B, and I have no real idea if one is better then the other. I just needed a filter and that is all the place had.
I can tell you that visusally there are alomost the same, the only difference is that the S&B one has more pleasts, and at the end of the cone K&N normally has like black blunt end, the S&B filter is tappered, and then has a convex design with pleats on the inside at the end. So I guess it is able to suck air through the end where K&N cannot.

tjn182 02-21-2005, 03:52 PM I huge a huge mofo K&N filter -- nice and clean now :cool
anyone use one of those HKS green mushroom filters??? how do you like those???
They suck... don't filter at all from every test I've seen, and don't even flow all that well for the lack of filtration.
...and this is coming from an HKS junky.

That's a listing of the universal fit round k&n filters. The first severa are breather filters, but I bet you could find something in there.

Flip_Side_the_Pint 02-22-2005, 04:32 AM hmm I'm looking at the ITGs and they looks promising, I think I'm going to try one of those ...Also since I have access to a HKS 'shroom and a greddy airnx I can try those for ahile as well.
RogRacer 02-22-2005, 10:19 AM I like the ITG filters because they have a built-in velocity stack....but be advised that after 3-5 years, they will begin to rot and will need replacement.
