Hey everyone. I originally posted this on the general forum, but this makes more sense. I just got into a 2000 Audi A4 2.8Q that I absolutely love. It's no bimmer, but neither wallet nor insurance can handle that right now. No mods either, it's still under warranty. However, there may be minor tweaking and tuning to the stereo. I'm currently a student at GaTech, so if anyone has any pointers on how to get out of paying parking tickets, please pass on the wisdom. Glad to have found such a great forum!

You can't get out of paying a parking ticket. And why did you choose bimmerforums to post this question vs an Audi board? Just curious.

I've tried the Audi boards, just not nearly as nice/fun/interesting/anything as this one. Plus I saw other Audi owners and figured it was acceptable.
As far as the tickets go, technically I don't have a tag on my car yet. And I don't plan on re-registering my new tag, this way they can't trace anything back to me. (I have a parking pass registered to an old car.) Also, how many tickets before a boot?

Welcome, why can't you put a dealer tag on your car when you need to park and also cover up your vin? This why there is no way to positively ID your car.. Worked at UGA....

i think it's 3 tickets before you get towed. i got one the other day and appealed it online. haven't heard back but i hear it's pretty easy to get out of tickets...

I believe its either 5 or 10 tickets, if you don't have a tag cover your VIN on your windshield and you'll be fine.

Do you have a parking pass? If so you're screwed, they just tack it on to your registrar's account if you don't pay them. If not, they'll eventually boot your car if you rack up enough tickets. They don't tow because they'd have to pay a towing service for that, instead they boot your ass and charge you stupid amounts of money to get it off.

The parking office at Tech is absolutely ridiculous, so chances of appealing it successfully are next to none. I had a fever of 104 one day so I went to the health center and had to make my own parking spot. I got rocked for $50 on that one, even though I showed them a note saying that I was legitamately sick and so on... they suck.

And Ali, they can track the car by the license plate too... so covering up the VIN does nothing for those of us with license plates.

Welcome to the forum!

First off, I AM the guy to talk to about Tech and parking at Tech. If you dont have a tag AND cover up your windshield VIN they will boot and/or tow your car. If you havent registered your car at Tech then you're okay until you get to the $400 range in tickets which is either 8-10 regular tickets or 15+ meter tickets. I know some spots you can park on campus that'll be Tech parking enforcement free but theres also the risk of vandalism or damage to your car. Also, I got a spare liscense plate and with some magnets you can cover up your tag so that when they write out the ticket it goes to some John Doe account, but once again, you cant let the tickets pile up or you'll get booted.

I work at the Coffee cart in the architecture building (new/west) tomorrow from 3-6pm and friday from 12-6pm so come on by and we can talk in detail about how this forum rocks and how Tech sucks.

No, you're not. Ali is allowed to spell it "respek" because his name is the same as Mr. G's. Also, we're not at even terms because you still havent seen me at my job. You suck at reading AND keeping your word. ;)

yeah, parking on campus blows, unless you've got a pass, and even then, it's far from a pleasant experience. If you are here late, though, they open up the visitor lots for free.

Welcome!!:) I used to have a 99.5 2.8Q in Santorin Blue.. Believe it or not, the .5 made a difference as the taillights, headlights and dash were the same as the 2000 but not the '99.:D

Anyway, very nice car luxury-wise, but that 190HP was a little anemic for the car. It was fun though, especially with the 5 speed. Took it up to the mountains with the other Audi folks when I was on the board. Also made a few trips to Alabama for BBQ's sponsored by APR, a big Audi tuner. I assume you have already checked out AudiWorld.com? I might have some pics somewhere. :)

is it possible that all the tickets i'm getting now w/o a tag will not count against me when i do get a tag put on? technically, they should be seen as two different cars, right? my logic is the longer i don't have a tag the better off i am. it's not like they'd call the dealer (who's name and number is on the temp one). or would they? greedy bastards

your logic is correct. they wont count against you when you get a tag...unless they go through the DMV.

on the ticket they listed a license plate number, how is that possible? plus, i can't find anything on the website about getting info on the ticket. i don't want to appeal or anything. i just wanna find out if it's a "john doe" # they use when there's no tag or what.

quoting the parking website:

"Habitual Offenders

A $25 surcharge will be added to the assessed fee for the 3rd and subsequent valid parking citations issued to a person or vehicle during a parking year (August 1 - July 31). Violators who receive 6 or more valid parking citations during the parking year (August 1 - July 31) will be subject to immediate boot/tow upon subsequent violations."

Click happy, yes you are. :D

As for the parking ticekts i've successfully appealed 4 tickets so far with GT parking. All 4 were tickets i got while parked at a meter. The ideal thing is to keep a water pistol in your car so when you park just spray it through the coin insert slot. Most of the time an error message will display. Leave a note sticking in the coin slot and you should be fine. Normally you might get a ticket still but you can go appeal it. Just go crack some jokes with the students who listen to the appeals and tell them there is no where else you could park at since all other spots were taken and put the blame on the parking department for not having functional parking meters. You should get out of a ticket or your fine should be reduced significantly.
