hey i need to go pickup 2 cars in marietta/austell area and town them back to my house in downtown atl. both are small ( 2dr e30 and 4dr e30)
anyone have a truck or truck and dolley that i could pay for their gas/etc and help me tow them back to my house?
or
on the back bumper of my 4dr 87 e30, i notice theres holes under the bumper, im guessing for a hitch, would it hurt my car to tow the other e30s to my house?

I have a bus. partner that I do wholesale auto brokering with. Sometimes we'll buy cars at the dealer actions that we need to tow. Tow trucks charge way too much, so we bought dolley.

It's been a real life saver. That's how I got Adeels car down to the shop for his swap...

Remember that a BMW must have the driveshaft unhooked when being towed on a dolly. The amount of wear/damage is very high when towing. A manual towed 100 miles etc will most likely be ruined, almost the same as running it without oil. Due to the design, the oil is not circulated thru the transmission like a conventional manual when being towed. If the input shaft is not turning, the oil is not flowing.

Excellent point.
The tow dolley is low enough though, that we can tow it from the rear, and if it's an M, we drop the front bumber. Much easier than a drive shaft.

the cars are an 88 2dr 325is 5spd and a 86 325e 4dr auto
and hmm.. since it would damage them to be towed on a dolley. can you tow a rwd car on a dolley with the back wheels on the car and the steeringwheel locked? so that the front wheels dont turn? thats prolly way to dangerous tho.

well i can always rent a trailer from u-haul they ahve the ones where you can put the entire car on there dont they?
ill call in a minute and find out

ok i can rent a full car trailer for cheap so if someone has this-
Your towing vehicle:

* Must be equipped with a hard top if it is an SUV. U-Haul does not allow any type of sport-utility vehicle not equipped with a hard top to tow U-Haul equipment.
* Must weigh at least 3,500 lbs. (curb weight), and must equal or exceed 80% of the combined weight of the trailer (2,000 lbs.) and the vehicle being towed (up to 4,000 lbs.).
* Must have Class 3 tow hitch (5,000 lbs. minimum weight-carrying rating)
* Must have 1-7/8", 2" or 2-1/8" hitch ball (5,000 lbs. minimum)
* Must not exceed maximum allowable hitch ball height 25"
* Must have external mirrors on both sides
* Must have fully operational lighting
* Auto transport lighting must be operational at all times, day and night, loaded or unloaded
* Maximum recommended speed is 45 MPH

then id happily pay for gas and buy lunch etc :):):):) could someone do it saturday or sunday or maybe early this coming week?

You can tow a car backward on a dolley/with the wheel locked. tow trucks do it all the time as well.

Also, you should back the cars onto the trailer as well. It keeps the majority of the cars weight over the trailers wheels, instead of up toward the hitch.
