Check their website. I think Pino is under age'd too and he ran a few events last season. tEckniks 02-06-2005, 11:28 PM permission slip.. :rofl glad im about to turn 19 in april wludavid 02-06-2005, 11:52 PM Autocrosses aren't held on tracks (usually). Mostly they are in parking lots full of cones. Lots of fun, but not all that fast - you'll never get out of 2nd gear in 98% of autox's you attend. Drivers' Schools aren't racing. And if you show up and treat it like it is, you will be asked not to come back. I'm not sure if national capital chapter allows 17-year-olds to do on-track stuff. Another choice would be a class with BSR at summit point. They have a few performance classes. You won't get to drive your own car, but you will get some instruction on braking and vehicle dynamics, as well as some skid pad time. You might also get into a class with Street Survival, which is an organization run by BMW CCA geared towards younger drivers. I believe the SCCA has a program for younger driver's as well. Pino 02-07-2005, 12:13 AM yea man :( If you wanna autoX, it can ONLY be BMWCCA events [there a 5-6 a yr] and you need to DL & print a document that i lost the link to. Your parents have to sign that bmwcca is not at risk for us. Its stupid but we gotta deal with it i guess. Hopefully ill see you out there in april :wave 1996 328ti 02-07-2005, 12:50 AM Drivers' Schools aren't racing. And if you show up and treat it like it is, you will be asked not to come back. Good to know there is another person my age w/a M3, i used to think i was the youngest :confused Phat Ham 02-07-2005, 11:41 AM just race on the streetz like all the other kids your age :devillook Zeke 02-07-2005, 11:53 AM just race on the streetz like all the other kids your age :devillook kids my age are idiots. They think driving 20mph over speed limit in city will get you somehwhere faster :dunno jterp 02-07-2005, 11:55 AM I think it's cool that you want to track the car and not take it to the streetzzzzz like most kids would do -- so i'm going to offer this advice -- I did 5 or 6 track events last year -- I signed up for all of them over the internet. When I showed up at the event I told the attendant my name and she gave me a packet of information. Not once did I show anyone my license. If you were to sign up VIA the internet and then just show up at the event, i doubt anyone would question you. FWIW -- in 1993 I attended a Shelby Club event with my dad (I was 13). I went with him to the driver's meeting in the morning just because I didn't want to wait in the car by myself. At the end of the meeting, the guy handed me a driver's bracelet. My dad looked at me and said, "hey, if he says it's alright it's ok with me." and he let me run a whole session in his cobra. Might be worth a shot -- just make sure you go to an instructed event. Phat Ham 02-07-2005, 11:56 AM kids my age are idiots. They think driving 20mph over speed limit in city will get you somehwhere faster :dunno ha you just called yourself an idiot :stickoutt Don't worry i'm an idiot, too. Andy 02-07-2005, 11:57 AM Terp, I wouldn't recommend that to him. I don't know about you but I don't want to be on the track with guys who are specifically denied from attending. It's crazy enough as it is.:dunno wludavid 02-07-2005, 12:09 PM FWIW -- in 1993 I attended a Shelby Club event with my dad (I was 13). I wish my parents had been more supportive of my motorsports aspirations. My dad acts like I kept my love of cars a secret. :dunno A few links for Zeke- http://streetsurvival.org/ http://www.decisivedriving.com/ http://www.bsr-inc.com/AAS.HTM http://www.scca.com/Join/Index.asp?IdS=08AA12-6E0F120&x=220|010&~= (the SCCA program for driver's 21 and under is called First Gear. That should allow you to do schools and autox's. And of course the NCC autocross school is $50 well spent. Some of the classes aimed at younger drivers might seem lame, but seat time is seat time. And you've got to start somewhere. Just going to a class or an autocross will show you what a good driver you aren't - it's a very humbling experience. jterp 02-07-2005, 12:15 PM Terp, I wouldn't recommend that to him. I don't know about you but I don't want to be on the track with guys who are specifically denied from attending. It's crazy enough as it is.:dunno .. :dunno He's 17 -- going to be 18 in what.. half a year and then he won't be "denied" -- I don't see a problem with it. If he's with an instructor I wouldn't worry about it -- chances are the instructor won't sign off on a young kid at his first event so he will never be alone out there.. If he isn't handling the car safely the instructor will yank him from the track. I don't recommend a non-instructed event (like the G&w motorsports event) -- but I wouldn't recommend that for anyone's first time at the track. Something like a Car Guys event would be good though. M3fun43 02-07-2005, 12:31 PM I don't inderstand your Philly SCCA problem. My daughter will be 5 this month and will be able to cart this year at all events. I need to get a go-cart now. Do you think you could tell Zeke & I if there is going to be a good track event coming up that you would recommend? Soooo many event and im not sure which one is best for beginners :dunno jterp 02-07-2005, 06:45 PM Car guys is running an event at summit point in march i believe -- http://www.carguysinc.com/calendar.html Their events cost a little more usually, but their instructors are usually pretty good in not signing off on you until you're actually ready (unlike some club instructors who sign off as soon as they see that you have a pulse). Keep in mind you can usually do 2 days or 1 day of the three to keep costs down. sunir 02-07-2005, 06:48 PM Im 17, and I... just wanna race my LTW  wootwoot :redspot ... :alright wludavid 02-07-2005, 06:53 PM  wootwoot :redspot ... :alright 25 posts and 20 hours! :b_pink sunir 02-07-2005, 06:58 PM 25 posts and 20 hours! :b_pink :buttrock :alright ...allright :redspot Biggins 02-07-2005, 09:05 PM I did some type of on-track school with NASA (I believe) at a summer event at Summit Point called Super Fest, Import Fest??? or something like that when I was 17. I filled out a form and they never questioned my age, only the fact that my friend let me drive his car. Pino 02-07-2005, 09:26 PM Are there any good ONE day track events? Im not really looking to rent out some hotel alone unless someone wants to attend the track with me & we can split the room [assuming im doing one]. 1996 328ti 02-07-2005, 09:53 PM You really should do a two day event. I've been doing these for a few years and find that my Sunday sessions are so much better than Saturday. You have an evening to reflect on the day and let things sink in. Then Sunday you can bring it together. You will get a lot more out of a weekend and I don't just mean more track time. You will learn more in one weekend than 2 one day schools. jterp 02-07-2005, 09:54 PM Car Guys will let you do just one day -- most schools will do the same if you ask... But -- summit really isn't that far away (about 1.5 hours) -- so you can come home after the event and go back up the next morning if you don't want to stay over. tEckniks 02-07-2005, 10:39 PM how much is the 2day event? like 500ish? :( sunir 02-07-2005, 11:05 PM how much is the 2day event? like 500ish? :( $250 - $500 includes instruction and in some cases breakfast and/or lunch and bottled water and drinks (you'll need that through the day)...
