been pulled over for not having a plate.
yah me to. In the three years of running no plates I've been pulled over 3 times for it. I've only been cited for it once and been warned twice. I've used the old "I hit something and the plate holder fell off, I have it in the trunk though". Running with no plate always makes me paranoid when a cop is either right in front of me or beside me. I always feel like their scanning my car for something to pull me over for. This is why I've been thinking of slapping a euro plate on there. I hate the way the CA plate looks on but I dont mind the euro plate look.

What did they say when they pulled you over?

How long have you been running it?

Euro plate will be more of a reason to pull you over than not running a plate at all.

philly B,

I've had just a euro plate in the front for a while now and I haven't gotten pulled over for it *knock on wood* and we live in the same area. I don't think cops give too much hassle over it, especially since there have been times where I've passed a cop head on. But I gues they don't seem to notice it?

I got pulled over for no plate on the front but the cop let me go. I pleaded with him because a hour b4 he pulled me over a cop gave me a speeding ticket. I asked him to leave me alone and showed him the ticket. He let me off.

i've had 6 tickets in three yrs. for the euro plate, 4 fix its ($10 each) and two citations ($90), but i used to shave my head, so i think i would get pulled over because i looked suspicious and thats the only thing they could find.

How long have you been running it?

I had them on front and rear for about 6 months while I had my temp tag still, and I've had just the front for maybe 6 months?

My whole thing is, I'd rather be pulled over and cited for an illegal plate/no front plate than for some bs like oh your were speeding or made an unsafe manuever.

Wouldnt you rather just not be pulled over in the first place? :dunno

I've always been a voice stating this is no joke for cops (at least in los angeles) although it hasn't been enough for me to take off mine, always pray my city I.D. will spare me :) . Here's the one reason of many (don't know if anyone else has heard about this also- p.s. let me know) LAPD has had this new technology for running plates, catching stolen cars, parolees, etc...you get the picture anything that raises a red flag.

I'm sure everyone knows some or most patrol cars carry mounted cameras on their windshieds, the new tech is the have cameras that scan your plates instantly as you drive by them or they drive be you. The cop can scan thousands of plates in a shift were before they had to manually scan each plate for a few dozen. All the cop has to do is drive around, hence if the are spending the (forget exact amount) but think it was $20,000 per unit they will want to make sure everyone has a front license plate and if you don't they will not be so leanient (sp?). Someone's got to pay for the equipment. I saw a special report where one patrol car caught or came upon 7 stolen cars in one day where he stated it would be maybe be one every couple of months.

Even so as they were filming the special, as the drove around with the reporter it flagged, (a loud alarm in the patrol car) a stolen/abandoned car as he drove by it. Long story short, watch out - I don't mind this technology only because it really helps with auto theft - and yes it sucks having to have a real front plate. The best i can do is make sure the plate at least reads what your real plate says......My vote is just run the euro! :buttrock

My friend with a gti got pulled over because of a euro plate. The stupid thing is...he didn't break any rues (speedwise) and he didn't really get in trouble for that. He for pulled over for not having a CA plate, but when they told him to pop the hood he got a ticket just because of a breather on his his engine instead of the plate.
My other friend got pulled over just because he had a loud exhaust. They told him to pop the hood too. But he got lucky that all he had was the exhaust. So he didn't get a ticket.
I was thinking about getting a euro plate too, but i decided not to because of that happened to my friend with the gti.
I see that you're in the LA area, I think nowadays cops around here are checking out the engines of nice/fast looking cars that they pull over.

Some cops want to pull you over for whatever reason and will use ANYTHING to pull you over. i.e. failure to use directionals. I'd rather get pulled over for an illegal plate/no front plate than for them to make up some bullshit ticket that might get me a point or two on my driving record.

Make sense ;)

I was running no front plate for a while, but just decided it's not worth getting pulled over for something that stupid. If my car had the bumper trim then I would definitely go without it. But as is my car looks bad with it and bad without it.

hmm.. Good point. :) I think it would match my car and not be that noticable though.

Yah I saw a white E30 just like your the other day with euro plates on it and it blended with the car quite nicely. But then again maybe your just lucky. :)
i've had 6 tickets in three yrs. for the euro plate, 4 fix its ($10 each) and two citations ($90), but i used to shave my head, so i think i would get pulled over because i looked suspicious and thats the only thing they could find.
yah, I think I've sort of been in that situation. The times I get off work and I'm wearing a shirt and tie cops seem to look over at me and just let me go about my business. On other days that I'm wearing my ball cap backwards they follow the hell out of me and run my plates. Bastards! :mad

I agree... but most likely if your speeding they will get you for speeding, then add other violations they happen to notice while they've stopped you. Usually they hit you with the most serious violation unless he's hooking you up and just citing you with the lesser violation. I've been pulled over for tint and then hit with a no front license plate ticket when I was stopped.

Dude, that sounds nutts if their using that kind of technology now.... atleast they will be causing more theives out there if this is true. hopefully it will prevent car theft which is a good thing. Yah, I'm still eaning toward getting the euro plate... maybe I will take it off the first time I get pulled over for it.

So I'm thinking matching the plate with my rear plate will probably be a good idea. Seems like everyone who's posted that setup has been trouble free so far. *knock on wood* :)

They do have that camera on their cars, don't know if they are using it yet. I used to work in Van Nuys, around the Van Nuys airport. And they would test out alot of stuff with police there. There is a Hotel called the Airtel Plaza where alot of police lunches are held, and they would show up with all there goodies. I asked one of them what the camera was for,... one said it was to scan cars, speed, plates and all that good stuff.... the other cop looked at me if I was going to steal it or something.... huh

And I just got pulled over the other night for no plate and dark tint, I showed the cop the other tickets I had and he let me go,,,, wow... pretty lucky I still had my tickets from the other day.

Fare warning.... Glendale cops are pretty strick, along with Burbank and Passadeana
