Anyone here ever remove there Intake Manifold on the E36 I6? I want to get to my ICV and need to get the Intake Manifold off. I found a link on the forum "http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=242033&highlight=icv+cleaning" but it's for the E39.

All help is appreciated, also anyone ever do the BG Intake treatment? I heard this accomplishes the same thing w/o having to take out the ICV.

I just did mine. You don't need to remove the intake manifold. I used the same link. It's pretty much the same thing once you remove your throttle body and ASC(if you have one). He describes where it would look different in our car. The tube with the clamp on top of the ICV is not on our car. It just plugs in to the intake manifold.
Just take out the ICV and clean it, don't use that treatment stuff. It's real easy.

The link http://www.e36coupe.com/technical/Cleaning_the_Idle_Control_Valve.pdf is the one you want to follow. I have a '94 325is and ran into the same problem as you have. The ICV is buried in there, and the other DIY's on removing it just do not work. Taking the altenator duct off and getting to it from there is the way to go. Follow that link, download the .pdf and you should be able to take it out. I'm doing the same tommorow. We have essencially the same engine, so I'll let you know if I run into anything that will help you out.

I've removed my intake manifold, but you don't have to remove it to remove the ICV.

Hmmm..so is it in a different spot on the OBD-1 cars? That pdf file looks like it's in a different spot than on my car. It's right under the TB-intake manifold junction on mine.

Yea, definitely in a tighter location than the ODBII's. After reading the DIY's on this, I thought it would be a snap, but it's buried down there deep. EVen w/ the TB pulled back, you can't even see it under the manifold, unless you're looking from the front of the car. I'm going to take a crack at it in about an hour and take pictures along the way.

Ah...no wonder. I remember the reason I didn't do this earlier was because I read that the manifold had to be removed. Then I found that other DIY and it was really easy.
Didn't know they were different.

Sir, This write up looks very good. I found something like this pdf a few days ago and I have replaced the ICV - 30 min. When cleaning the ICV, had to use a QTIP soaked with cleaner to the buildup off the little door. You know it's clean when you hold it upright and shake from left to right an dyou hear the door opening and closing. Either way, my poblem was my Air Mass Meter. The tech suspects I over-oiled my K&N cone and that ruined the sensor in the Air Mass Meter. That part was $312 - PAIN. Does anyone know if the Air Mass Meter can be cleaned?
