well i broke down today after putting it off for a long time. i went to my favorite audio dealer (lees audio in edison nj) and broke down. i got a great deal on a sub and an amp. got a jl audio w3 sub in a sealed enclosure with a jl audio 250/1 amp. my car now has an alpine 9815 head unit, mb quart interior speakers in the front and rear deck, the jl sub and amp. i am going to be adding in a 4 channel jl audio amp and a set of mb quart 5 1/4s in custom floor pannels after the summer. seriously, what i have now is way more than enough, but everyone here knows the deal when it comes to enough, its never.... well..you know what i mean. anyway..car sounds awesome. gonna need an exaust soon. few other things too. and im still on a mission to get a set of new euro bumpers if anyone knows anything about those. please let me know...happy and smiling for a change !!! :redspot :alright

Pat, get in touch with a new buddy of mine, Stan (schafeitel1602@cox.net), he's got several sets of euro's tucked away in different shapes. He can get them to look absolutly pimptastic before he shipps them to you if you want. He'll be a little on the expensive side but TOTALLY worth it. He's a true enthusiast.

And having a good stereo makes the difference in any car. I need to rip up the e21 eventually to add some more low end inbetween the mids and the subs I have. I've got Pioneer 4x6's 2 ways all the way around, a Sony cassette deck, and a Sony XPlode 10 disk changer sittong ontop of my 2 10'' subs in the trunk. God I miss the thump those made.

I recently got my truck redone for my birthday. It's niiiiiice for only being 3 speakers. Some Boston Acustics 3'' 2-ways, and an 8'' Punch sub, powered by a Pioneer CD player and a 350watt Kenwood Amp(for the subs).

Now you've touched on a topic that I'm very interested in. Don't know very much about today's stuff. I'm from the "old school" stuff...K? What'r you all running in your rigs? What do you like/dislike about your current system??? Subs? No Subs? Do we really need em in our little cars?

I'm currently listenin to a Blaupunkt Nevada series head unit. Older but I like it. Some older Pioneers front and back. It ain't kickin but it's tunes. How much power is enough? I don't need to get thump---thump---thumpin down the street but let's face it, when Zepplin's rockin I wanna FEEL Jimmy Page bendin them strings!!!! Know what I mean??? I was thinking maybe what? 400 watts? 600? Jensen? Pioneer? Xplode? And something tells me don't even bother with 2-channel that 4-channel would be way more versatile for upgrades. Am I too far off course here? Don't have an arm and a leg to spend but will upgrade slowly I guess but when it comes to wiring I wanna redo all of it the first time I'm in there and get it over with and leave plenty for those so-called upgrades.

Well I'm just gonna shutup now and let you guys talk cuz I'm just here to listen and learn. Figured I'd get it from the guys thats runnin the same cars as me and that way we'd relate better to our needs and the characteristics of our cars.

Thanks a bunch guys!

Rock ON! :alright

ALL RIGHT MY MAN..NOW THIS IS A SUBJECT I KNOW A BIT ABOUT. car audio is pretty much personal taste. loud and hard, or clean and clear. all up to you. i have mb quart mids and highs in my 320 because i like a sharp clean chrisp high and punchy mids. im a musician so i love that studio sound. there is a smoother side too, bostons are nice, clean as shit. but honestly...if you are looking for a nice sounding stereo with clean mids and highs good punch and a good amount of volume, go with jl all around. i cant get enough of this company. a couple sets of jl audio components and a nice 4 channel amp, with a 10 inch sub and a mono amp will give you one hell of a rediculous sound. i honeslty think that the combo i have in my car now is great, best sound i have had in along time. i have an alpine 9815 head unit (60 watts by 4) with a rediculous built in x over, and super clean sound. that is running 4 4inch mb quarts. and i have the jl 250/1 with the jl w3 sub in a super tight sealed enclosure. every time i turn it on i thank myself for buying it.
to be honest. dont skimp. go for the good stuff, and dont worry about going big with the subs. unless you wanna really hit super hard, one 10 or one 12 is enough for an e21. thats my oppinon anyway...i listen to everything from steely dan to slayer..jay z to cinderella. im super happy with my sound.

Hey Pat, could you be a little more specific as to what Model speakers and amp you have? More so on the speakers. With all the various sites out there that boast "fitment compatibility" there's always still some grey areas as to what actually fits "as is" and what needs modification to be installed. And each year our cars get a little older Crutchfield's selection of speakers has dwindled now to just a few for us pre-80 E21 enthusiasts.

Same as the rest of you fellas boast your system components please. It really helps when doing a search to for audio components both for us who've been here awhile and those who are noobies to list your model numbers. Thanks!

I am running a Clarion Pro Audio receiver, one 4 channel JBL amp wired two channels for the front Clarion 4x6 plate speakers and the other 2 channels wired together to a Sony 12" sub in a band pass enclosure. the rears are powered by the receiver, and just used for rear fill and are old Infinity Kappas. I think I went over that stage of big subs and very loud music for the clarity in the music, nothing better than some classical music on the drive back from work/party....

you dont need model numbers..if you have an e 21..you need 4x6s. mb quart makes some real nice ones. they only make them in the discus line of speakers. they are the way to go in my book, but they are harsh. the highs cut thru like a mother fucker..so if you want serious studio sound that is really adustable..thats the way ..if you are gonna go with jl audio..they dont make a 4x6 anymore i dont believe. but they do however make an adapter to put a 4inch speaker into a 4x6 spot. good stuff. check it out..most dealers know whats up.

Found some DKD146's but the "fitment guide" says they won't fit. Enlighten me oh wise worldly wizard of the tunes!!! LOL

If they're a 4x6, then the chances are good. If the magnet is too far back, it might not. You might have to do without the covers for the speakers, or make some of your own, but that *should* be the only issue. Measure up the distances and see how the new speakers compare.
