Hey guys, I just found this awesome forum the other day and thought i'd finally post some stuff on here. I picked up a '79 320i last spring. It runs pretty good, it has 144k miles and has a little bit of rust, the paint is also very faded. The interior is very new looking, minus the dirt. It has the three spoke sport steering wheel on it. The left front brake rotor is off it and thus can't be driven. It also has no exhaust past the manifold. I plan on redoing the motor and exterior in stock form and putting the euro bumpers on it and gutting the interior to just have two race style seats in it. I also plan on rhyno lining the interior and the trunk just to prevent rust. I also plan on redoing the entire suspension and put lowered springs and sport shocks on it. Lastly i wanted to say that i've been reading the posts on here and the bond you guys have and passion for these old Bimmers is awesome. Thanks.

Hello and Welcome :wave

Sounds like you got the game plan ready to roll. Cant wait to see the finished product, the Ryno liner seems like it would be a great idea, although I heard its very heavy, but I'm sure it wont matter all that much anyways. So good luck fixing her up and ask away, your in good hands here.

Another 79 to the crew :buttrock

Thanks for the support. You're the guy that owns the car i have on my favorites list that i found on cardomain for what seems like a year, i love your car to death, i absolutly love it. i saw on the eurotuner website that it was featured in there but have yet to find the January 05 issue anywhere up here in Minnesota.

Bnkrpt, welcome to the forum. Too bad you don't live out on the west coast, as we are all going to be meeting up at bimmerfest this year! Your plans for your car sound pretty good. Any idea what you want to do to the motor? If you are going to be rebuilding it anyway, you might as well do a performance build up. Well anyway, welcome.

Cheers,
Jonas

I know man, the west coast, gosh i'd love to be out there and chill with you guys and all your sweet cars. And Bimmerfest sounds and looks like a blast. I'll probably just rebuild the motor and clean it up a little. Funds are limited being as I am in college, plus I don't really have any idea of what to do as far as performance issues with that motor, my dad is a great mechanic but he's been working for GM so BMW's are kind of different haha.

Time to research, there are more possibilites than you think (crazy NA, high CR's, turbos, blah blah blah). The M10 is not difficult to work with, plus you can throw a grenade at it and it will laugh at you :evil2

The other option would be to drop an M20 in it!!! Thats what my 323 has, but i have a 2.5 out of an e30 in it!!! Trust me, talk about bang for the buck. I'll bet that if you did all the work yourself you could get a motor subframe and all the other crap you would need for under a grand!

Cheers,
Jonas

Currently I'm in Winona, MN. It is in the southeast corner. When I'm not in school I'm in Albert Lea, pretty much right in middle of the state on the southern border.
