View Full Version : Question on wheel sizing in relation to performance

I have figured out that changing from the stock 16" basketweaves to 20's w/ the right tire size will give me the same rolling diameter, but should I go smaller in an effort to get a little more performance? The 19's will weigh slightly less, I can change tire size to keep the speedometer correct, but would it be more beneficial for me at all? Lastly, will getting lighter weight wheels really ive me anymore noticeable power...I thought that there was some equation saying that 1lb at the wheel is like 10 in the car. I love the iForged 20's, but I am trying to justify the price of picking up some 20's package complete with tires for the same 2k that I would spend on just wheels alone.

Someone quoted me 12lbs lost in weight on a car is ~1hp gain realised. Only thing I can think of using lighter wheels means the steering will probably be a lot more responsive.etc ?

Yes you should try lighter. I had E65 wheels for a while but I could feel the loss of aceleration. Throttle response we just much more sluggish. :nono

What wheels you sporting now Auraraptor, I'm thinking of getting rid of my E65 wheels and going for something lighter..

I use ACS Type III's, 8.5 all around. They brought the 'snap' back to the pedal I was missing.

i can testify to that...acceleration seemed quicker in his and mine has upgraded 3:15diff. i would really like some lighter 20"...but is there such a thing?

Yes, I wanted to get back to you when I had something to say you didn't already know. I have been/am currently in PA and can't drive out there. I tried calling but they will not allow forwarding directly to techs. :nono

When I was there on monday and reminded him, I also talked to him about your car. (BTW good thing you have a warrenty, as I do not think the varible assit steering regulator is a cheap thing to replace!).

Next week if I have a chance I will go there again and get the wiring diagrams from him, as I told him when I spoke to him that if he did not get it to you before then I would come and get them myself.
