I took my brother to lunch the other day, and he wanted to drive the car back. I let him...bad move. He proceeded to bang the car of the rev limiter twice. I made him stop and I drove the rest of the way home. I know thats the reason the rev limiter/cut off is there, but I can't help but think something died in his little jaunt.

No need to worry about it. I have hit the rev limiter several times on the track. That is what it is there for.

just be careful who you let drive your car. No one should be allowed to redline and feel that power like you do... :redspot
Don't worry about hitting the limiter going up through the gears; it's a non-event. Obviously if you miss your gear going down and zing it, you may have over revved you wallet.

Not a big deal. I understand if it was my car i would be a little upset, but not worried about the engine. That motor can def take more abuse than that, so i would not worry. But i think that would be the last time i let my brother drive the thing for a while. :shifty

I just needed some reassurance from the BMW guys. I feel better. I didn't think he'd be stupid enough to do that with me sitting there. I almost had to end him. I felt violated afterwards.

The car is fine. I bounced off the limiter once when it wouldn't go into fifth.

I would too, I only let two friends drive my car, and I have a Jeep.

People who are not familiar with the easy reving BMW's hit the rev limiter all the time especially in the first gear. It takes a few shifts to get used to if you haven't driven a BMW before.
Bad move is letting him drive with the Sport Mode on. :) :nono
