Well I found a junker 1978 E21 320i, The guy who owns the parking lot it's on wants it gone and it looks like I get it for close to free....don't know much about it yet the guy who owns the lot doesn't own the car, and since I was at work I really couldn't get off topic and start talking about buying cars while on official buisness....anyway I had a DMV check run on the car and found it had a salvaged title issued in 1999 and it's tags ran out in 2001 so it has been sitting a while, DMV also has color listed as blue and it looks white to me....I'm fairly certain the person who DMV has as owner isn't the owner anymore as the guy who has it now got it for a project car. At this point I don't know if it's even a std or an auto...but a car sitting in the snow with a salvaged title has to be worth about nothing...I also have the vin number, although I'm not sure a carfax would help me on that old car...

I do know that in 1999 it was working and it did pass IM, I'm told it does run but who really knows....so anyway here's a picture I snapped earlier today, you guys think it could be worth less than $500.00? (providing it actually runs) I'm gonna go back after work sometime this week and try to get a hold of the owner and see what I can work out, I just wanna know what ammo I can use to get it super cheap(or decide if it's even worth going after)....and then I can pour large amounts of money (within my wife allotted monthly car buget) to fix it up, or if it's really bad I guess I can always part it out....

if it actually drives, it looks to be good for $300 (definately under $400)....if it doesn't run, anywhere from free to maybe $100.

also, if u have the time, you could part it out & make some money off it.

You're in Anchorage? You HAVE TO know Eric Stice, right? If not, he is the man to talk to. He lives in or near Anchorage, and has a fleet of 2002's, E21's, and even a 356 Porsche. He's a friend of mine, although I have only met him once or twice. He might be able to take a look at that thing with you.

Nope don't know him, I've only owned a BMW for 2 years now and there aren't alot of BMW enthusiasts around, mainly just stuck up people who drive em for the name (like my neihbor across the street with the 525 that never even said hi to me untill I brought the E36 home....)

I've only seen two 2002s in town an orange one and a green one. I've never seen an E21 rolling around town. We don't have a BMW club here, but there is an informal Euro car club (mostly vw/audi people).

someone on the base was selling an 2002tii for $3500.00 a few months ago but I called too late and it was gone....

I suspect the orange 02 you've seen is Eric's. He's a middle aged guy. Does some sort of radar contract work with the Air Force, so he's on the base all the time. I remember him telling me about the tii for sale. I suspect he bought it. Email me if you want, and I will send you his contact info. He's hardcore. He has a newer SUV type thing that his work gives him, but he drives a 320is on Nokian snowies all winter. The man LOVES his old BMW's.

from what you have said i see no reason for getting it for 200 dollars or less. if the car runs its still covered in rust and to top that off its a salvaged car. i got my 320iS for $800 and it ran, had never been in an accident and was the sport model. the 78 model also lacked a catalyst exhaust system. i dont know how the smogging system works where your at but im pretty sure it wouldnt pass out here. but most other states are less restrictive than ca. it would be best to just part the car off. but if the guy wnats more than $250 for it its not worth it.

We lack the CC but got the EGR which works on the same concept. If all is in good working order smog is not a problem

smog is the last of your concerns with that car. im assuming (just because of where the car is located) it has rust. espically after it has sat as long as it has. you can see how bad the paints rusting in the pic. besides a salvaged car is harder to register/insure. youd be better off just parting out what you can, if you can get it cheap enough.

I havn't seen how bad the rust is underneath it yet, but passing smog won't be a problem here. the last time it was registered in 1999 it passed smog, and if it did fail smog I just couldn't drive it in the winter. my wife is ok with me picking it up if it real cheap like 200-300 range, and if it turns out to be horrible I can at the very least part it out...

I'm going to try and get a hold of the owner in the day or two to see what he wants (if anything) for it. I understand they pretty much want it gone...

edit: I talked with the owner of the car he wants $50.00 for it....at that price I'll get it. I did look around the car a little today it's an auto. the owner of the car wasn't at the place where the car is tonight so I only chatted with him on the phone....so tomorrow I'll meet with him and make sure it drives. the owner says it runs. it has only been parked there since august, but I have no clue where it was before then. this car has been passed around a few times in the past couple years...So if it does all go through I'll let y'all know and post some pictures of this beater once I get it home.....

Hay guys I'm new to the whole e21-thing but I too have found a junker 320i. This one's a 1983 and not nearly as rusted (I cheched it out yesterday) as the one above. Its been in the woods for soime time and the interior smells like mold- its gotta go- and I was wondering the same as the hime up there. Advise?

-Hello? (*shameless bump*)
-I don't know anything about the engine yet but it all apears to be complete.
-How much would it cost to get this thing back into drivable condition.
