View Full Version : How old do you have to be to Autox. BimmerSport 01-25-2005, 07:03 PM Do they have an age limit for autox. I live in Washington State. Thanks. I drive a stock 95 M3 It depends on the clubs rules or where they hold their events. I did my first autox at 14 or 15 in my dads car, because the BMW Club had an event at a gocart track that was insured for young people. You have to ask that question to the people that are putting on the event. chris1866 01-25-2005, 08:08 PM not sure what the laws are in your state, but here in South Carolina, it goes like this for SCCA sanctioned autocrosses. you may compete with a learners permit, but a SSS (Solo Safety Steward) has to ride with you. (here in SC you can get a permit at age 15). after you get your regular (or restricted) lisence, you may compete alone, but a parent/guardian MUST be present at the event until you reach 18 years of age, at which point you can be totally on your own. as far as driving/autocross schools, like evolution and seat-time and such, i believe they are a little different. you may have to be 18 or 21. (i know the Porsche Club driving education event i went to you had to be 18). (as a side note, i just can't help saying that you must be damn fortunate to own a car like that at what i am assuming is a pretty young age...........be careful with it., oh, and have some fun!). Kevin325i 01-25-2005, 08:43 PM Most clubs, if you're a minor you need the guardian all day. Track events you won't be able to race at because the insurance won't cover you. Be prepared to not have any of the 'old people' take you seriously. I'm 17, been doing this for a year now, and nobody will give me props to my face. I always hear about what they told my dad about me and so on. If you don't have a parent/guardian willing to stay the whole day you're SOL. Have fun and be safe. bread320i 01-25-2005, 08:47 PM It depends on the clubs rules or where they hold their events. Have fun and be safe. My SCCA chapter only requires a guardian to sign a minor waiver. This is with a full license, I'm not sure about restricted ones. sunir 01-27-2005, 12:17 AM old enough to see over the cones :thinkerg postmaster 01-27-2005, 12:20 AM At the least you will need a waiver signed by a guardian, my first AutoX was when I was 16, all by myself and everyone in my SCCA region was really helpful. JerryLamb 01-28-2005, 07:32 PM You must have a full driver's license (no permit) and the witnessed signature of BOTH of your parents, if you are under 18, to compete at an SCCA event. You must also have a driver's license to run in WWSCC events, such as Sunday's filled-up event in Everett. I do not recall whether you need both parents' signatures to run in WWSCC. You might want to post this on the forum at www.wwscc.org to get the definitive answer. cgregory 01-28-2005, 08:58 PM You must have a full driver's license (no permit) and the witnessed signature of BOTH of your parents, if you are under 18, to compete at an SCCA event. UNLESS one of the parents is a sole guardian. Also, I just found out that the waiver is available online through the SCCA website in pdf format: http://www.scca.com/_Filelibrary/File/minorreleaseform2.pdf The only stipulation is that it must be printed in color. EWCMR2 01-29-2005, 01:20 PM You don't need a license or a permit to autocross. In formula Jr (karts) 12 is the standard, a region can get permission to drop that to 8. (maybe 6 ?) Jerry, Locally, someone with a permit can run as long as they fulfill the requirements of the permit. Like have a parent ride along. JerryLamb 01-29-2005, 10:16 PM Thanks for correcting me on the permit Eric. This came up recently and that was the answer I heard. So you need a permit or license to drive a car, but can drive a FJR kart at 12. We do not currently have a supp about this in the NWR allowing younger drivers. Eric, are you guys going to drive the 325 in STX again this year? EWCMR2 01-30-2005, 01:18 AM Thanks for correcting me on the permit Eric. This came up recently and that was the answer I heard. Eric, are you guys going to drive the 325 in STX again this year? If your region doesn't allow passengers the permit wouldn't work... No STX for us this year, Mari hates street tires. Her best result last year was in a Bimmerhaus DSP 330 that she had never driven before and had no practice in, she loves hoosiers. Mari has said she's not driving this year but most people don't believe it. Look for her in Randy's Elise and me in a CSP miata. People look at you funny when you show up at a local event with a 36' trailer and the only thing in the back is a Fj kart! I'm 18 and my sport is shooting, not autocrossing, but I know what you mean. Few older adults take me seriously, and those that see me shoot usually do but rarely talk to me about how I did. No worries though, I'm better at it than most of them. :redspot I ought to autox my truck :buttrock |
