Hey guys

I finally have some spare cash lying around and am thinking about tackling a few projects on my E21, it's an 83

First and foremost being a auto-to-manual conversion

I understand I'll need.. The tranny, clutch, pedal assembly, clutch master cyl, driveshaft.. the little trim stuff

I believe it's a pretty straightforward swap, is there anything else I'm forgetting? any ECU changes?

what kinda choices are there for diff. and tranny?

also.. is there anyone on here parting out, or selling a parts 320? I've been unable to find the pedal cluster.. and some of the little PITA parts

I haven't really been able to find any resources on an auto-to-man conversion with the stock engine, stuff for 2002s, stuff for conversions, but nothing for a stock M10 block

MattE21 might be able to help you out with prettymuch everything you listed. He is parting out a gold e21.

You won't have to touch the ECU, it'll work just the same. If you want the 5 speed box, you'd probably want to get the diff from a 5 speed car as well. The auto's were equiped with 3.64 diffs, and the 5-speeds with 3.91s, the 4 speeds with 3.64s. The iS was equiped with a limited slip 3.91, which is rather sought after, and would be a good investment since you'll be doing it all at once. Also, make sure you get the right driveshaft for whichever gearbox you end up getting, as the 80-82 driveshafts were shorter than the 83, and the pre 80's cars had completely different driveshafts all together.

Sounds like you've got your bases covered. If it's really worth the hastlle to you, then go for it. I probably wouldn't have bothered unless I was putting in a more gutsy engine, or doing some good performance mods to the m10. But then again knees deep in an m42 swap, so hey :)

I've got an '83 parts car- the 5 speed + all parts are intact and in good condition. Do you need all of the swap parts, or do you already have some???

Check out this write up, I helped Jester with this swap and he did an excellent, as usual, explanation of the swap. Main keys are to make sure you have all the parts and also take your time.
