So when I first got my car, the guy I was buying the car with (not from), well he was a family friend. He said it would look really nice to paint over the chrome window trim with black trim paint. (REALLY REALLY STUPID WHEN I THINK OF IT NOW) but I did it then and now the pain is starting to fall off.... and I don't want my 320i to look like a POS. So any way to get this black trim paint off the chrome lookin window trim... Thanks!

take the trim all off, like I'm assuming you did to paint it. Then, rough it up again, like I'm assuming you did to paint it. Then take it to a powder coater and have it powder coated a satin black. That way the powder coating won't flake off. Especially if you like the look of the black finish. If you didn't rough up the surface before painting, then that is why it is flaking off. Simply remove it with mineral spirits if it was enamel based paint, or use paint thinner if mineral spirits isn't working.

yea I used a scotch bright m3 pad to score the finish I also primed the trim before painting it black lots of thin coats work best

well I mean, you know stock e21 look. how its silver. the window trim. yeah. I want that look back again. and I want to get the black off of it without hurting the paint of the car. just trying to get the crappy paint job off the window trim and bring back the silvery/chrome look.

If you've messed it up bad, and cant get it back to looking the way you want it, i can sell you the whole set of window trims. :cool They are in decent shape.

Actually it tends to look nice when done correctly. Shadoline is something most e30 people do. There are some good write-ups on it, but Nic hit all the major points.

My e21 will have it done within the next 3 months, so I'll get lotsa pics before and after the procedure.

Just be carefull around the rest of your paint with those chemicals and you'll be fine.
