Only had my car a few months so all i have so far is a header but im planning to convert to electric fan, relocate battery for intake, and anything else I can come up with that will make it go faster for cheap.

Let's see, my '82 has a 1.8L block and that's about it.... 2.0L crank/pistons, e21 head, 272 cam, custom header/exhaust, programable EFI conversion, no fan, intake. Check it out at www.e21motorsports.com/kendanielson . It runs stronger than it has a right to...

swap it out for something a little more punchy.

Oh no!!! Now you're sounding like the e30 crowd when it comes to talking motor mods for the eta!!! ;)

Anyway, as Ken mentioned above there are things to do, but it depends on how much $$$ you want to spend. Headers and exhaust aren't that expensive, intake (and the battery relocation it requires) are also cheap and easy. You can dial in some more timing for free, but you'll have to run higher octane gas. The electric fan is very popular here, and should be something you can get away with for under $100. Removing the AC helps free up a few hp, but if you want to be able to EVENTUALLY use it again, just remove the belt for now, leaving the rest of the system installed. This still frees up the parasitic loss from the compressor.

That's about it for the simple bolt-ons. Anything else requires opening up the motor (cam, stroker, over bore, better internals, porting, etc) or going with forced induction. Nitrous is another option, but you have to use it wisely, and not go overboard on the mixture.

Thanks for the replies. I bought a '73 2002 that has an injected 80-83 motor in it along with the 5 speed and 3.90 LSD. The main reason I bought it is it was done. Had all the goodies (Bilsteins, sway bars, Recaro interior-not e21 S pack seats). All I did was add Ground Control springs 16 inch Alpinas and some TLC. I was just too accustomed to the 2.0 in past 2002's. Looks like I'll just build a 2.0 and maybe stroke it. Do you guys think the CIS injection could support this small increase in displacment?

Yup, people have gone up to almost 2.2L on CIS, from what I've read.
