i just sold my 95 integra gsr which, i must say, was a pretty good autox car (never tracked it). i am looking into an e36 328is because right now i just simply can't afford an e36 ///M3.
my question is......how good of a track and autocross car is it?
how does it compare on the track and autox with an integra type r?
i plan on putting a LSD from an M3 into it to help with the handling, but other than that, how does it do in stock form?....or.....maybe with some suspension work??
just trying to get a feel for whether or not this is the car i sould go for.
it will be a daily driver, but i am also a pretty avid autoxer and am definately about to get into some roadracing as well.

I've run my buddy's 328i at the track a couple times.

Biggest downfall IMO was the 2.93 open diff. It needs an M3 LSD badly. Sounds like you've got that covered already though.

Otherwise, its very similar in feel to an E36 M3, just a little less performance here and there.

stock the type R is a bit quicker in DSTOCK, but it is pretty close.

in DSP (suspension, weight reduction, LSD) they are VERY VERY VERY fast and potential class winners.

Mine did pretty well, ESPECIALLY after the 3.23 LSD.

I had it for sale a few weeks ago. My little brother is going to take it off my hands. Would possibly reconsider if a better offer was made. :devillook My brother is taking it without the suspension, seat and steering wheel, etc. I would rather let it go with all the parts installed (primarily the suspension)

Just FYI.

sorry man.....wayyyy too many miles.
but that brings up another question, is there any difference in terms of performance and handling from the is to the i? i assume the sedan would weigh more, possibly a longer wheelbase.....?
i was honestly looking for a coupe, but if a sedan is identicle in performance, i guess it doesn't matter??

The weight is a long debated item. Sedans are ussually lighter because of options but there's also that rumored thing about the sedan truely being lighter in similarly optioned cars.

Basically the weight is close enough to take which ever body style you want.

Plus there's just something about a mean euro-sedan tearing up an autocross that appeals to me... I'm probably the only one.

doors don't matter. They are virtually identical.

I like the way I sit in the sedan. I feel like I can see out the windshield better. I can get a feel for my surroundings easier. (I bought another sedan BTW)

Yeah, she has a good amount of miles on the clock but the car sure runs hard. It was worth a try!

OUCH 75 lbs? Wow that's a big difference. Maybe the coupes are lighter... :(
