View Full Version : my PPF ultimat turbo manifold....pics
Flip_Side_the_Pint 01-19-2005, 06:13 AM I finally got my tubular PPF twin scroll manifold,Oh yea I'm the only one in the USA with one for the M20. So :stickoutt
here it is for all to see.... :D

F Dogg 01-19-2005, 06:38 AM dannng, looks nice... equal length tubes I'm assuming.. welds looks nice too.
but I don't get what the little tubes sticking out to the side near where the turbo is supposed to mate to does... enlighten me please
Flip_Side_the_Pint 01-19-2005, 08:01 AM itw for my wast gate, I could run one or two
gol10dr1 01-19-2005, 09:30 AM what turbo is getting attached to that nice manifold.
tjn182 01-19-2005, 09:33 AM Lookin real good!!!
Kevin 01-19-2005, 10:10 AM How much is that and where did you get it?
DefactoM6 01-19-2005, 10:21 AM Looking good, tell us more about it

I am not getting 2 wastegates.....if it is a single turbo application....?
I am reading the maximum boost book for the second time...but I dont understand that?
:help
It looks cool....what kinda turbo ya looking to strap on that...?

For a twin scroll turbo, there are two turbine inlets(look at last pic). This helps keep the kinetic energy of each exhaust pulse intact since they don't dump into a common inlet right there and diffuse like a normal turbo. These pulses help "push" the turbine wheel a little bit each time a cylinder fires, reducing spool up time.
So given that you've got two completely separate chambers that are each only fed by half the cylinders, it makes sense to run two wastegates to vent each group of cylinders instead of just one(which would cause less exhaust restriction on half your cylinders, and probably change the AFR inside them).
...just a different way of doing things.

techno550 01-19-2005, 03:53 PM very interesting groupings of cylinders. 6,5,3 and 1,2,4?
If you had 2 wastegates they would open at about the same time anyway. Most wastegates are not responsive enough to be sensitive to exhaust pressure pulses.
Usually one would combine the two sections of the manifold at a flange that seals nicely to the valve on the wastegate. Half the flange would be one bank, and the other half the other bank.

Im plaing on building a divided manifold and was making myself the same question, one or two wastegates, I fully understand how shold the wastgate be installed in order to use only one. (no passage of exhaust gases from one bank to the oder when wastegate closed...right?)
Any disadvantage in running a single wastegate setup on a divided manifold? Is dual wastegates the correct thing?
This will go into a fully built M50 2.8l 8.5:1 CR shooting for around 500 whp
PS: I do already have an extra housing which is twin scroll

We always run twin 44mm Tials on twinscroll turbos. Works perfect. FullRace use the same way:

Black Mamba 12-09-2007, 03:28 PM One boost controller controls both wastegates?
Having you tried the twin scroll approach....if you compare the same GT35 turbo with regular housing and a twin scroll hosing both the same A/R. How much sooner in rpm terms will the twin scroll have full boost vs regular hosing.

Thats the way all of the dual WG twin scroll setups I have seen are configured. No need to complicate things with seperate boost controllers.

thanks , I thought i should be that way
