They list a 2001 325 i as 132, which might be wrong. Also, they don't mention the M3's limited speed of 155, so I don't know how accurate it is.

EDIT:And they list the 2002 330i as being limited at 130, which is also wrong, as far as I know.

EDIT AGAIN: And they list the 2001 330i as being limited to 130, while topping out at 144, while the 2002 330i somehow tops out at 136. I think they're nuts.

UK spec 330i's BMW quoted max speed is the limited 155 mph !

Ive had my speedo showing 171 before, but obviously there is some misread in there, and I hear that the limitors either work or don't in our cars. I would love to find out the physical top speed of our cars, with a radar gun or something of the nature.

I don't know how accurate that is because BMW speedometers are known to read higher than they should at those speeds. I do know for a fact that the M3 is geared to go over 200mph w/ 18" wheels.

id say with ungoverned computer they could do 167-170 which would read 180 on the speedo.

About 177 MPH on the speedo is top without governor... No way in hell you will reach 200 MPH with wheels alone. The gearing is there but wind resistance kills it at those speeds. You will need more than 550 HP or so to break the 200 MPH mark.

Wow. So when my spedo says 100 i am probably only going about 85. That is spectacular. I gotta use my dad's GPS and actually check that out.

Or use the OBC, it should read the uncorrected signal. My speedo reads 5 km/u higher than the OBC.

Hartge put a blown 550 hp M5 V8 in an M3 CSL and went 192 at Nardo--they maxed out in sixth but had the balls to go faster.

I have an aviation gps which will give an accurate speed over the ground located in daytona beach fl.

18" or 19" wheels will be the same, as its overall tire diameter that matters. If you have a 25.67" tall tire or 26" tall tire is what matters not the actual rim diameter. Dave

The limiter only works in 6th, in 5th gear there have been several members that have hit 175mph+ in a stock M3. Its in 6th gear that the 155mph takes place. Dave

158 in sixth, taken with a stalker pro Ka band radar gun at 2200 feet above sea level. I do need to re try this in 5th gear. And it took a pretty long run to get there.

Only the RS6 plus edition is top-speed unlocked, all other models still have the 250 km/u limit.

About trying in 5th, don't bother as you won't reach 260 on the speedo. Read my earlyer post, it's limited to 250 km/u, but his corresponds to roughly 260 km/u at the speedo. Try maxing out, and check your OBC.

Chip it and you will see 280-290 km/u on the speedo.

Haha! So true. There is no describing the adrenaline feeling you get from going over 130 mph.

In my M3 I've gone 178 mph still with the stock limiter. I've done this a few times, but I've done at least 50 ~160 mph pulls with no problem. :lol Once I am WOT, I just dont want to stop as long as I have enough room, so a lot of times I end up maxing out 5th gear before I shut down. :D I think the M3 is a very stable car at those speeds, but of course its still dangerous! In my Supra, sometimes I feel like the car is getting out of control at speeds lower than that...like 140+ at WOT the car feels like its going to fly off the road! Spinning the tires at over 100 mph is pretty nasty. :lol

Dinan claimed their S2 was good for 180+ in a Car and Driver article. Don't know how they substantiated that claim. Mybe you could check w/ them

Could try a GPS device to see how fast. Borrow one.

Top speed for my 05 is an honest 170-171 with no mods and speed limiter removed (JC shark injector). Everything else stock. That was verified by 2 gps systems. I also have my speedo corrected and that was spot on. The car accelerated to that speed surprisingly fast, but started to die around 168-169. Cant imagine it has anymore than this, unless you have a supercharger.

One thing of note, if my speedo wasnt corrected, it would of read approximetely 180-183ish. Stock speedo is NOT accurate, especially at these speeds.

Me too, but that was in my 02 with a limiter and stock everything. Now that i have a couple mods and no limiter i want to see how far i can crank that spedo. :D
