Have a euro 1984 635csi manual.
Delemma: Has a 735 engine out of a E32 and getrag gearbox that had cable tacho (has been removed as 635csi uses electric tacho)
The Solution (I HOPE)!
Buying an 87' E28 M535i that has had side on intercourse with a rather large natural phenomenom called 'a tree'.
Endless list of useful components still seemingly in okay condition.
Engine piston rings and bearings only done 20,000 km since it met its fate. Mods done including larger exhaust (2 x 2 inch), 3-1 exhaust manifolds, larger throttle body, etc. Plus 16 inch Alpina mags (yummy)! The price is pretty damn reasonable for this part of the world (second most isolated city in the world, there is one more isolated in Russia).
The Question!
Does anyone know how interchangeable or close to original a E28 M535i's running gear, engine, etc is to the 635csi's?
PLUS... 635csi has 20p offset wheels standard. The mags are 11p (x 2) and 15p (x 2). Will these work.
Any information, advice or opinions would be appreciated.
I want to keep spare gear box and running gear, brakes etc as parts. Not too sure about engine as it depends on direct compatibility of parts. After first service have decided a good selection of spares and some self maintenance good be worthwhile. With advice and help from the experts when I come to a grinding holt. Have already fixed the hydraulic clutch myself and found it quite satisfying to gain a little knowledge into the workings of my baby. Nearly opted for a very rare E12 M535i as a project, but the 'shark' won the day.
If anyone else has a 1984 635csi I would love to compare notes.
Cheers
p.s I'm an M6 'wanna-be' owner 88 or 89 model?
