Just after the rain so track was quite slippery & at 6000ft elevation. See the 1-2 shift in the 2nd video to get an idea of how poor the traction was.

Wow good job on those runs.

Serious - remember he is 6000ft elevation...over a mile high.

I'm a little surprised the S4 didn't do better under those conditions...that is exaclty where you would think it would shine. Things aren't always what you expect I guess. Nice driving.

I'm shocked... even I thought the S4 would have beaten the M3 in those conditions.

Well, anything can happen in real life.

However, properly driven the S should've take the M out of the hole in the wet AND in the dry.

If both cars had pro drivers, the S would probably win in wet conditions. By the time the S hit the traps, though, the M would be reeling it in.

Agreed , but the S4 is not really on the same level as the e46 M3 , so its kinda what i expected reguardless of weather

not the same level...i thought they were really close....i mean i'm sure the M3 has the bigger advantage at the top end....but the S4 would rip it a new hole off the line wuoldn't it?

I disagree. I think they are on the same level. The S4 can out-track the M on some tracks, ex. the top gear track. Aren't track manners supposed to be the end all in deciding performance?

In a straight line, the M is faster, but that advantage, imo, is balanced by the S4's versatility and creature comforts.

At the end of the day, I'd be perfectly happy in either one.

i just wish the S4 didn't look like every other audi on the road....actually i wish all audi's didn't look all the same....

or course, i never really give em more than a glance, so i suppose i could miss minor differences.

Sadly the B6 A4 w/ the Ultrasport package and B6 S4 look pretty much the same.

The B7 S4 and RS4 *should* be pretty noticeable.

Some tracks? That sounds like your saying the M wins most of the time. Yes , in dry weather I believe the S has a decent advantage , but not by much. It weighs more , and i was at a dyno day in Providence , and a bone stock S put down roughly 190whp , give or take a few , i cannot recall. saying that i know the M must put down at least 275whp and weighs less and would reel the S4 in very quickly after takeoff. This comeing from a Vw/Audi enthusiast.I liek the S4 and would like to get one , but refuse to pay the insurance , nor can i afford it. And i was talking to my mechanic that recently did a K04 upgrade on an S....the price tag on that was no joke. The K03's , even on 1.8t's tend to go early, not to mention they are ungodly small. I drive one of the most cursidely unreliable cars made, there must be something i liek about it to stick with it.

YEah but you have to take over a second off to convert to sea-level times. Also it was very slippery. I have close-ups of the track & you can see the water.

I feel the M3 will have the edge on any track over the S4. ITs just too uch faster down the straights, stops quicker & carries more speeds through the turns. Top Gear track is an airfield with beacons, so I wouldn't consider that definitive. Around Hockenheim the M3 is much quicker than the S4.

The problem with the S4 is the weight.

Erm...did you watch the videos? We're talking about a B6 S4...the one w/ the 340hp 4.2L V8.

I am talking about tracks with turns :D The high et was because it's at 6000ft in probably humid air on wet asphalt. Not a recipe for speed.

All of my comments about the S4 being on the same level as the M3 are talking about B6 S4s and E46 M3s.

Thanks :D Although to be more accurate I should say that I'd be happy in either one, but even happier in my car.

The problem with the S4 is the weight.

Exactly. Audi = oink.

S4 is a great car. That one belongs to a good buddy of mine. The interior is awesome the colour is striking. The V8 sounds good but is a bit muted.

The S4 should have taken you out the hole. And is'nt your car modded as well from what I read in the other thread that Improviz started?

It all depends on weather conditions I guess.... I would have expected the S4 to have an advantage in the rain...

On the track same story, M3 usually beats S4, except on a wet track, where the S4 really shines. Doesn't even have to rain, only a bit of moisture is needed to slow the M down :(

Those videos are from last year when my car was stock. I've only recently completed the modding.

And the S4 guy can launch. If you look at all the other videos I posted you will see that I tend to have the edge off the line against all the cars I raced, including a few 4WD ones. I've been driving M3's since 1998 & a RWD can come off the line pretty quick.

I've never seen that done over here.I've seen the bad lane shut down at some tracks until they were able to fix the condition. And I suspect your buddies can't drive 1/4 mile! :nono By the way I'll probably see you in the MB world forum :rolleyes !

Yeah the C55 guy can't drive auto, but he ran 0.7 quicker than the S4. When I lined up where he did I ran 0.3 faster. All the regulars know there's a lot of traction against the guard rail there. But to each his own. That guy ran 13.3 at sea-level with his C55 & I ran 13.0 at that same track. But hey, don't take my word for it. There's lots of event coming up this year.

Not to be a downer, but simply posting videos that have be recycled from other posts in other forums is not something we condone here.

We've received many reported posts about this. As stated in the etiquette thread, simply posting links to vids is not really what this forum is for...
