Right now this is a fantasy/pipedream job that I doubt I would or could get BUT, I was curious what the living situation is like way down on America's wang.

Evidentally, the job is in 'downtown' Miami, what are rents like on apartments in or around the city? What do houses cost in the area? Right now I commute 60 miles each way to work which equals between 1.5 and 3 hours each. If I lived outside the city somewhere, would traffic on my commute suck as bad as it does right now?

I assume Spanish is an important thing to learn down there? :)

Spanish would be very important to learn... A 1.5 one-way commute means you could live in Ft.Lauderdale or Homestead and make it to Miami. That really depends on where in Miami you are going cause Miami is a H U G E place by definition. Downtown Miami has bad traffic and no where to park.

its exaclty like vice city

it all depends on where you work and how much youll be making. learning spanish would be a big plus. and I think its something in the water, but all the women are extremely hot.

Well, my hope would be to minimize my commute to 30 minutes or less. Ive been doing this crap for 3 years and Im tired of it. The job would pay about $70k and parking for work is in a secure garage under the building.

$70K would be decent in Miami. It all depends on what your budget for housing is. For example:

Coconut Grove (a little expensive part of town with some night life, next best thing to South Beach). As an example a 2 bedroom in Grove Isle is now going for $750K. Its a small island with three buildings in the Grove, you get concierge, valet parking only,.... probably 10-15 minutes from downtown

Kendall - houses range from about $160's and up. A decent 3 bedroom goes for about $250K. Nice condos in the area also , ranging from about $130K's to mid to high $100's. (2 bedrooms) .

By downtown BE CAREFUL OF PRICES you see if you don't know the are, niger town is right by downtown, you don't want to porbably live in Liberty City, Overtown, Opa Locka, parts of N Miami....

Hollywood (north, in Broward county, between Ft Lauderdale and Miami) is a NO NO :nono , full of old people and cigarett buds in the beach.

There are some nice condo's going up by downtown, but you drive out and you are in niger town or bad part of town.... really great as long as you don't plan on going for walks, or care about being safe.

What else? Rents? Condo's in Kendall 2/2 about $850-$1K / mth, south beach / adventura / coconut grove / oh and brickell? Probably $2K and way up for a 2/2...

Good luck. What job / field ?

Wow, that's cheap! I would love to buy a house with a garage, that's my ultimate goal. I could definitely do a condo or small apartment for awhile, I only need 1 bedroom. I wouldnt go nuts on housing because I would definitely be buying a new car or two if I got the job. :devillook

Im in IT. The job would be doing satellite networking, of which I know nothing about. What would get me in the door would be my clearance but Im still not getting my hopes up.

niger town

I certainly wouldnt want to end up there... :confused

An average house, correct... You could even get a townhouse with a garage for just under 200K, maybe 175K....

As for the other poster who said the only bad part is N miami... He is in ORLANDO, 4 hours north.... I have been here all my life... almost 4 decades.... so I assure you that you do NOT want to live in the spots I told you.... call or search the local police departments or crime statistics and you will see those areas I mentioned are high, high... LOL.... N Miami would be the best of the worst, actually... I know.. :eyecrazy

Plus, why do you think GTA has the town called Liberty City? Duhh, bad crime part of town :eyecrazy

Here how safe and what ethnic background is there... BTW, you have a lot of them pregnant women with 3-4 kids being dragged around, getting paid welfare in that town called Liberty City, just read some of these links :confused http://www.urbantech.org/cbos/fl00/about.html

I'm in orlando, Its not 4 hours away. I was on collins ave from orlando in 2.5 hours last weekend. I go to miami enough.

But whoever mentioned those places is for the most part right. Even up here in orlando we get to hear about ignorant Miami people, crimes, and woes. Its so great, I'm planning on moving somewhere down there in the next year or so.

If I remember, Miami (and its metro areas) is still one of the most dangerous cities in the country. I know it was the place to not be in the 80s and early 90s (hence vice city, miami vice, etc all those stupid crime shows based in miami) Actually as a whole, Florida is probably one of the most dangerous states in the country (crime, petty theft, weather even, etc..) You just don't hear about it, cause it'll hurt our no income tax tourist dollars

Get an 1 bedroom apt for now, somewhere safe, well known. Do the miami thing/work and within a year you'll learn areas you never knew existed. Thats what I did in Orlando, lived in an apartment for a year and found places/towns/areas around here no one could ever think of.

oh, and in Orlando, you can get a 4 bedroom, 2 bath, 2 car garage with 1200-1500sq ft house built within the past 10 years for somewhere between 165K to 200K in a good neighborhood with A schools within 20 mins of downtown.

No, people shut up because they're tired of your ignorant ass. Liberty City and Overtown are but a number of low-income areas and the people comprising of those areas are of a number of races. Listing Liberty City as your location is no biggie, being racist is - and it has no business being on Bimmerforums.

And if you're going to be ignorant, at least spell nigger or nigga right. Niger is a country in Africa.

Mikey, rent near your office and avoid the commute. I recently moved down here and I think that the roadway infrastructure does not meet demand, hence you'll find traffic even on smaller roads. On the good side, i'm out in 70 degree weather while you're freezing your butt off in Maryland! :buttrock

i live in miami lakes. Its a bit futher up than miami maybe like 25 minutes on I-95. ITs boderline broward. It is real quiet and real safe. If you were looking for a place to live close to downtown. I would say kendall, homestead, coral gables, and coconut grove. Traffic isnt really that bad if you know how to live with it. But living down here rocks you will always have something to do.
