I am new to this forum, but am looking for rel low mile 87 or 88 M6. I live in NH, and not many come up for sale here. Any ideas on where to look, besides ebay and autotrader? Are there reliable dealers who specialize in old sharks?

interested in an M5? It appears as if there just aren't alot of M6es for sale right now. They made under 1,700 of them, so it's not like there are a whole lot to go around. Interestingly enough, as few M6es as they made, they made even less M5s. The estimated number is somewhere between 1200 and 1300 cars. Under the skin, the M6 and M5 are identical with the exception of sway bars. If you're not interested in my M5, i don't know if he still has it, but I knew a guy that had a 58,000 original mile Cinnibar red/Lotus white 1988 M6 (smaller, painted bumpers, nicer looking) he was thinking about selling. There's also an 88 on the bay right now. If they've been well maintained, miles don't really matter.

Appreciate feedback, but I'm not looking for an M5.
I saw the M6 on ebay, but I prefer a car with less miles, if I can find one. Also, this car appears to have been driven less than 3000 miles in the last 5 years, which makes me a little nervous.

DEfine Low miles -
anything you find below 50K miles will be at least 20 grand - easy.
50-100 K miles - probably close to 20 grand or more - depending on care/state of car. (perfect shape - 20 or so) almost perfect - close to 20.
over 100K - can still be at or above 20G if in Perfect shape - or close to 10K if needing extensive cosmetic refurbishment -
critters needing mechanicals are under well under ten - simply cause it costs so much to work on them.
Mine's got 119K on the clock - Runs great!

As far as places to look for M6s, a few to try are...
roadfly.org...

http://www.bimmerbrothers.net
http://www.stareuropean.com/
Star is expensive, but sometimes they have some very nice looking cars.

I really appreciate responses- as I said, I am nnew to the board and it is amazing how helpful people can be.
JCS: I guess I am looking for something with around 60-75k. Less doesn't seem realistic, and if it were, wouldn't this also be a sign of problems?
The price is not really a crucial factor for me, in the 20s is OK, as long as I don't have to put a lot more in immediately. I am not super mechanical, and the car will be maintained by a local guy, so I am looking for a 6er that is mechanically sound and that will not be much work.
Since it seems most of the M6s are out west, are there reliable ways to get them checked out before flying out to see them? I know that ebay recommends SGS, but my guess is that they would not have the expertise to evaluate an M6. Does anyone have experience about this? I have carfax- is their data believable?
Regarding bimmerbrothers and Star- does anyone have experience buying from them?
