View Full Version : Dyno graph of koni sa's after 30K
NoSoup4U 01-06-2005, 09:08 AM Thought some of you might be interested in seeing this. Koni SA's (rear) from the GC street/track kit after 30K. It might be required to be a member to see it though.

I have no idea what this data means; but, it seems to indicate that these shocks are the shizznitz.
Mad Dog 20/20 01-06-2005, 11:01 AM That's pretty interesting.
I think it depends a lot on what the shocks are subjected to. That owner is out in Cali. Streeting the car out there for 30k miles is prolly 10% of the wear caused by streeting the car here for 30k.
My rear Koni SA's started pissing fluid and I felt a degradation in damping after 45k miles. They revalve them for free forever, basically, so its a non-issue, really.

How long does this take? I assume the car is parked until the return the shocks?
Thanks,
Scott
I sent my DA rear Koni's to Jay Morris at Ground Control last winter. He put them on his shock dyno. Despite 40,000 + miles of hard use, they were still in very good shape.

My TC Kline SA rears started leaking out the adjusters last summer. Called TC and that's a common problem with their modified ones. They say it typically happens after you adjust them. It only leaked a little, and then stopped. Weird. But it's normal.
Will Koni revalve the TC ones for free? I thought there was a charge for a revalve / rebuild.

magnetic1 01-06-2005, 11:44 AM hrm.. maybe I should send my ADs back to GC while the car is seeing downtime....
Mad Dog 20/20 01-06-2005, 02:42 PM No down time method: You pay full price for new (revalved) shocks/struts, Koni ships them to you, when they receive your old stuff, they refund you, minus shipping.
Or you can do a down time type of exchange without dropping the deposit dough.
Either way, you end-up paying shipping.
With my car, I was commuting in and out of DC with it daily for those 45k miles, and doing 4-6 DE's a year.
NoSoup4U 01-06-2005, 02:52 PM Garrett -
Your pm box was full. OT -- are you still interested in getting a roll bar? I am going to Kearney Racing this weekend to get a quote on a custom-made one. He can make it bolt-in. But, fitment will be superior to autopower. Alternatively, he recommends Kirk Racing ... if we go bolt-in and he can install it.
Let me know if you'd be interested in doing the Kirk Racing. We could split shipping and send it directly to his shop. He's right near Fed Ex field he said.
Thanks
ComBIRDable 01-06-2005, 03:11 PM Mad Dog,
Thanks for explaining how that works. If I ever get to the point of having a racing budget, Koni's are high on the list, and I wanted to know how they work that kind of stuff out.
Thanks,
Scott

Hrm, I wonder if they do the same for Advance Designs.
James, I have an Autopower bar and had no issues w/ fitment.....

The tough part would be getting the fronts out for me. They're inserted into the factory strut tubes.. :stickoutt

... and held in by a single screw!

Mad Dog 20/20 01-06-2005, 11:15 PM They CAN be tough to get out. One of my fronts had siezed in. The other slid right out - the Koni shock had pissed itself and lubed-up everything.
Will PM you, James.
