I'm going to order some harnesses for the track, and had a few questions about them. These are for my daily driver, so I don't want to put in a roll bar. I talked to one vendor who can get 5-point harnesses in 2 or 3 inch, and he said that I should go ahead and go for the 3" since its about the same price, and that the roll bar aspect won't matter too much. I've heard rumors that 3" harnesses shouldn't be run without a roll bar, so I was wondering if this was true and I should go with the 2", or just throw caution into the wind and go with the 3". Thanks in advance for your help.

don't get a 5pt harness for a daily driver. they are for true race cars. go to www.hmsmotorsport.com and order the schroth rallye 4 with the clip-in adapters for $199 ea. i sat in one at an auto-x the past weekend and they are really good.

Yeah, I second BJO's opinion. Do a search for "harnesses" here in BF.com and you'll find some members' opinions on using a harness without a roll bar, risk of back injury, etc.

I just installed the Schroth clipin/clip out harness, took me 2 minutes. You can remove the harness in less than 30 seconds  I highly recommend it for dailes because you do not want to drive on the streets with a harness and no roll bar. THe $199 is well worth. :D

You do not have to remove anything. The two rear straps connect into the existing rear seatbelt connectors, and the right front connects to the seatbelt connector. For the left front, you have to bolt the the supplied mail connector to an existing point in the car. Very easy to do. Then the female connector for the harness clips into that male connector that remains in the car. So the entire thing can be removed and there is no cutting or removing seats to install. It is specially made for the e36 bimmers so it is an exact fit. BUY one, they are great. I am using it for the first time this weekend and can not wait. :buttrock
