instead of resizing the image try taking the ppi down in PS to 72ppi(standard for web graphics) you can shave some file size and still retain good enough picture quality.
EDIT: NM just checked it for you she is already at 72ppi...

Okay, dumb question...

I turned off showing avatars and showing pictures on my user control panel for BF.C. I still have signatures enabled. Most sigs show up as text, and links to pictures at an http:// address show up as the link (not the image). But now that everbody is turning on these newfangled rotating pic sigs, I'm getting graphics on my screen.

I don't mind as long as the pics stay appropriate for the workplace. The reason I shut off all the other graphics was to stay out of trouble at the office. Is there a way I can disable these rotating pic sigs but keep the signatures enabled? Or do I just have to shut off the signatures altogether to be safe.

Thanks,

Scott

If you ever find a picture that is not appropriate for your work place, let us know... we'll look into it. We have rules that prohibit any images that might be controversial at most workplaces.

GW rank: #51-52 (can never really pinpoint this, but it's not in the Top 50)

Exactly why I want to go.

1) City life > Fairfax life
2) Business opportunities, internships galore
3) Open campus, in the middle of D.C.

I dont like Georgetown as umch as GW, but Georgetown is like #4 in the nation or some crap. I took a tour there a few months ago, the place looks so boring...GW is much more lively.

But, my grades probably won't be enough to make it to either, too much damn competition...:rolleyes

Uh, it's wicked easy to get into GW......I got in......so anyone could get in if i got in...

But yeah, as much bitching as I do about GW, I do enjoy it there somewhat, I've made some great friends, but I've made some nice enemies too. In the end though, I just think that the amount I paid, I should have received a little more in return...

Well, waitlisted on the last two.

Those are all great friggen schools man, don't get down on yourself. Plus UMD is a great school too, plus you're paying in-state tuition....big plus there

...my problem was that I didn't aim high enough when I was applying. I was too scared of getting rejected so I applied to mainly all state schools with Univ. of Washington being the hardest to get into and UT being the easiest, then GW was somehwere in the middle. It hit me that I should have applied to at least an Ivy league when out of all 6 schools i applied to, i got into all 6 :dunno

Moral of the story: aim high when you guys are applying and dont fuck up like me :az......oh and go visit those schools you're applying to first...I didn't visit GW before I accepted so, I was going in blind....managed to stub my toes a few times

Mr. Maboomba
01-07-2005, 03:09 AM
Well I either aimed too high or really fcuked up my admissions. I know I fcuked up my admissions essay to Rice and my interview to Georgetown.

"Who is your role model, if you had to pick one person?"
"uhhhhh.... my mom?"
"Um, ok... What has been your biggest challenge in life?"
"uhhhh... I haven't really had any. I guess... my dad being a jerk sometimes?"

:rofl OMG so bad.

:biglaughb

Wow, why did you do that???

Mr. Maboomba
01-07-2005, 02:12 PM
Because I didn't have to swim across the Gulf to get to Florida for policial asylum, I wasn't raised by wolves, my parents didn't go bankrupt, I didn't rise above out of a low-income slum, I never moved around to different schools all the time, my parents aren't divorced... how many "challenges" can an average kid with a good childhood have by the time they're 17? Its kind of a bogus question.

Keda
01-07-2005, 03:15 PM
I guess you don't have the gift of gab. Thats the kind of question you "creatively answer." Maybe your biggest challenge was having no challenge at all. :tong3

Mr. Maboomba
01-07-2005, 03:41 PM
Ha - cute. Afterwards, my Dad revealed to me that it doesn't really matter what you say but rather how you handle the question. Which I flopped on... he suggested that I could've used that question as a chance to explain why I had a 3.6 instead of the 4.0 that prestigious schools are blood-thirsty for: "My biggest challenge is my quest for knowledge. There were so many out-of-the-classroom avenues for learning that it was hard to persue them and devote enough time to classwork..." Something like that. Oh wellzzz: guess it wasn't for me!

Keda
01-07-2005, 04:21 PM
Don't worry, you'll have plenty more opportunities to creatively answer things after you graduate.

Honestly guys - the "school" you get into is not as important as what you get out of it. I know, clichesh; but, you guys that are in college or are about to enter, or start 2nd semester. Take my advice: STUDY.

Things are a lot different now. Getting a job is not as easy anymore. Crap, graduating with a B.S. = bullshit. The gap between wealthy people and middle class is growing significantly each year. For those 4-6 years it takes to graduate from college, if you blow it off, and do shyt -- you will pay for it. Trust me, you will. College is about having fun; but, HAVE BALANCE. Work hard -- play hard. Keep it balanced.

But, if you think hard work 'alone' will get you ahead -- you guys have a lot to learn. That is why I suggest play hard -- but WORK HARD as well. You have to know the rules of the game you play. Every work environment has unwritten rules that one should follow -- to get ahead, the people that learn them the quickest, succeed -- those that do not, no matter how smart and bright -- fail.

Thus, it is NOT necessarily the school you goto ... the more you can get out of your college, the better. No offense Preppy -- but, it is your OWN fault that you do not get your money's worth out of GW. Luck is not fortuitous occurrences -- people make their own luck. For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction. If you do nothing at college but just go to class, study, go out and party, and come home -- you will gain nothing. Challenge yourself -- instead of the normal 15 credit hours, do 18. Take chorus -- do student government, etc. Do something you normally would not do -- and you will learn a lot from it.

Sometimes, a person focuses so hard on what's at the end of the path, they do not see the opportunities they are walking right by in the present.

The complete opposite attitude, having no goal, causes a person to stumble blindly in the dark.

Have good purpose -- but, do not be afraid to change. Don't be so fixated on achieving your goal. What you think is best for yourself, may not necessarily be the best for yourself.

Mr. Maboomba

Minister James! :worship: :worship:

dave is cool
01-10-2005, 02:29 AM
Like James said, try to get involved in some extracurricular activities. I'm a member of AMSA (not really active, I should probably participate more) and I pledged a fraternity last Spring. Pledging was one of the best things I ever did in my life. It's definitely an experience. To those of you who thinking fraternities are all about partying, drinking, drugs, etc., then you're very wrong. There is a lot more to it than that. There are lots of community service options and philanthropies that fraternities and sororities hold together, among many other community-related events.

Preppy
01-10-2005, 03:17 PM
James, no offense taken man. My jadedness isn't all directed to just my education here, it's also the people I am around, it's made me a little on the bitter side because I don't get along with most of these people here, but that's typical anywhere I would go. For the people in which I do get along with, these will be life long friends that I will never lose contact with.

And I really don't need a lecture about 'challenge' and 'building character' and all that mumbo jumbo about finding myself, I do plenty of extracurricular activities and volunteer work around DC, it's not like I just sit on my ass and post on the forums all day :shifty ;)

And I know what you mean about the whole 'play hard -- work hard' mentality, but it's not just that, there are other factors that fall into line. Personal effort and dedication may be one indicator, but when you work your ass off to prepare yourself for an exam two-three weeks in advance, but still manage to only pull a C- on the exam (with the class avg. being roughly the same) you get a little frustrated with yourself and your professor. And it doesn't help when this is a repeating theme, especially if you do try to 'change it up' and figure out what you're doing wrong studying wise. But I have found out that I my method of studying/preparing is 100000000x better than when I first arrived at college.

As for getting my money's worth from GW, I still don't agree with why tuition is that much higher the avg. Ivy league school, but oh well, grad school won't be much cheaper anyhow...

NoSoup4U
01-10-2005, 03:45 PM
I totally agree Chris. Hey, I can sit on my ass and post though, I've put in my time :stickoutt ;) Perhaps you are doing "too" much though, then. Seriously though, I can relate in many more ways than you can imagine. I was in your exact shoes. Although, I got along with everyone. I was on our homecoming court (we went 0-11 that year though in football :confused, GO UIUC, oh yeah, for Todd that's reading this.... U of Michigan :fingerboi :stickoutt). Are you sure you are taking daily showers :D

You need to refocus IMO. Step away and HONESTLY look at your situation. You did not get the best grades, that's fine. No need to dwell or worry about it at this point. What is done -- is done. You need to take your situation and make it work for you. I'm not trying to lecture you, you are hella smart. However, sometimes an outside opinion can help. A person gets so involved with their current situation, that sometimes they are not able to objectively look at things.

Not trying to lecture;but it's also NOT just about studying the material. There's more to it than that. The reason I did well on my exams and on the MCAT, is not b/c I knew the material. I really did not. However, I learned "HOW" to take the exam. You have to look at your professor's past exams, quizzes, etc ... and try to figure out what THEY are thinking, what THEY would want you to know, and, how they structure it. You have to spend some time analyzing their style. This gives clues on how they will administer the exams. Anyone can memorize material -- it's how you can use the material you've memorized. Each professor is different, what works for one person will not work for another. Thus, you have to adapt your studying habits to that class and to that professor.

If you would like to just talk -- have lunch around GW here sometime, hit me up. I think you could learn a lot from my mistakes and hopefully, rectify some of yours. HTH .... f-face :stickoutt

Ok Branko
01-10-2005, 03:49 PM
Good point James. I think the hardest thing about being at college is taking a shower EVERY day.. thats just impossible. Im running on 4 days straight. Man college is hard..

Preppy
01-10-2005, 09:03 PM
James, we're still on for trying to lunch sometime, you'll be plenty surprised at the direction I am planning on going now. I've always been a person to make the best of things so it's not like I am just going to sit on my hands now that things didn't go my way. I'll make things work out and if they don't, I'll go with the flow until I can make it work. :)

To get into GW, i think you need around a 1250 SAT score...I think a 3.6/4.0.....but I'll tell you this...it really is kind of subjective of how they accept you...

I got in with a 1120 SAT and 3.65/4.0, but I had an insane extra-curricular booster through my band career in HS so I know that helped me a lot. I didn't try to 'pad' my transcript with crazy amounts of extra-curric. stuff, I just had Band and my tutoring/mentoring spots and I think that helped me get in.

But I honestly do not know how GW does acceptance nowadays, especially with the newly revamped SAT format...

You might as well try to apply to College Park. Make sure to apply by the Early December 1 deadline though. The regular January 1 date is much harder. With a 3.65, 1440, and a shopping list of extracirriculars including band and Eagle Scout, I got admitted, got $9,000 total scholarship, and was selected for University Honors.

Not tooting my own horn, just giving you comparative admissions stories.

Early decision is a good way to go, but make sure whatever college you choose to apply E.D. to, that is where you want to be, because at most places it is a binding contract if/once they accept you.

Ben, good job on Eagle Scout buddy, I respect every single one of you guys for going that far. It's not as easy as some people pass it off to be.
