ok, i know this isnt really a question for Texas, but since i live here, and you dallas folks are pretty knowledgable, i has a question. i know you can put a m3 engine in a 318is. i was wondering
how hard?
price?
length of job?
other parts?
smart decision?
if i get an engine, does it matter if it is manual or automatic?
if its manual do i have to convert it and vice versa
should i try to go manual?
its alot of questions and ill have more, i was just wondering, cause im kinda sad with my cars hp, my moms old 525i could beat me.
thanks

im also considering DASC, i just thought m3 engine would have the prestige.

i have a 2.2L VTEC in my car. and the engine is automatic. we just put leather in it this weekend. that makes me feel like I am driving faster cuz the seats are now nicer. it wasnt very hard to do at all. All I did was place a Vtec sticker on it. and now I can control the shifter by pressing on the gas harder or letting back.

I am assuming you are talking about an E36 318?

About as easy as it gets as far as engine transplants go.

price?

Motor alone will cost $2-5k. Figure another $1k in odds and ends parts. Figure $2k or more for labor.

length of job?

by you or by a shop? by you- figure a month or 2. by a shop a week or 2. Good news is Terry Sayther's shop in is Austin and does lots of engine swaps.

other parts?

yes.

smart decision?

*shrug*...your call

if i get an engine, does it matter if it is manual or automatic?

If you have to ask....

if its manual do i have to convert it and vice versa
should i try to go manual?

Again...your call. Why anybody buys an automatic M3 is beyond me...but what do I know?

im also considering DASC, i just thought m3 engine would have the prestige.

LOL

I won't even go to the teenagers shouldn't have a car with more than 150 hp as I will probably piss a lot of people off in this forum. :-)

seriously, 7k for a swap, i'd rather sell the car and buy an actually M. I am happy with my 325, and have ridden in a very impressive 328

I agree, why spend the money to swap when you can just get one with it all there
