View Full Version : Eclipse GT. Too funny!
M Roady 01-02-2005, 10:47 PM I took a little ride to the beach today to get some sun and enjoy some topless ///M time.
On the way back I stop at a light and some woman driving an Eclipse pulls behind me, then while waiting for the green she pulls along side. I see her glance at the ///M Roadster and laugh and say something to her male passenger. I'm sure it was something about an over priced Miata.
I suspected she was going to go for it, but she never gave the courtesy of actually acknowledging me. The light turns green I take off normally, and sift into second without winding out first. She kind of hung back, I think she was going to let me go first then blow past me. :evil2 I hear the Eclipse start coming to life, well as much as it can, through the end of first gear and shifts into second as it starts to overtake me. Wow, at least it was a stick.
I figure that's good enough, I'm kind of shallow in second...oh well. I kick the hampster under the hood in the ass and the Magnaflows start bellowing . The Eclipse got far enough ahead for me to see a USMC sticker on the back. Seemed like the typical Marine chick from my experience. Thinks she's got everyone beat when she's only holding a small pair. Edit: No offense intended for women in the Marine's. Just the few I've met seem to think they are the best thing since sliced bread.
The Magnaflows start screaming as I overtake the Eclipse. I have about a 1/4 car and probably more than a dozen MPH lead as I shift into third chirping the tires. I run out third gear and stand on the brakes to get myself back to reasonable speeds ASAP. I'd hate to hazard a guess as to how far ahead I was at that point. :flamethro:burn
I slow to the speed limit she hangs back a bit and finally passes. She never so much as glances over. Oh well, no thumbs up for you. A few lights up we end up side by side again, she stays way back in her lane to ensure no communication is possible. I don't launch, but as soon as I'm rolling I floor it and run first and second. I'm pretty sure she wasn't thinking about it, but since she seemed so giggly before I thought I'd rub a little salt in the wound.
LWRNCE 01-02-2005, 10:50 PM nice... Lucky for you its dry over there. West coats is getting hammered with rain.
E34nication 01-02-2005, 11:36 PM nice... where in tampa do you live?
M Roady 01-02-2005, 11:36 PM It was a very nice day today.
Edit: I live in South Tampa. This encounter was on Ulmerton Rd in Largo.
E34nication 01-03-2005, 12:46 AM south tampa here too... don't know about the weather down there, though... I am currently in NYC... get back to the good weather on Thursday.
M Roady 01-03-2005, 12:59 AM The weather has been brutal, and it doesn't look like it is changing any time soon. :(
The poor ///M is going to spend the week in the body shop though.
Serious 01-03-2005, 01:00 AM eclipse gt>mrody
j/k of course.
fozgate 01-03-2005, 03:35 AM Can you believe that the convertible Eclipse GT "Spyder" sells for around 31k? I see them all the time where I live and it is just pathetic that people are paying that kind of money for an ugly, underpowered, and unreliable Mitsu.
Sorry to hijack your thread, nice kill even though there was never a doubt. It's always nice to put someone in their place when they have no idea what the hell they are driving.
Sammyzuko 01-03-2005, 03:52 AM Nicely told. It's fun getting the details of the action.
Good kill~
SweetGP20 01-03-2005, 04:16 AM Nice run. How much HP do you have after all those mods?
I'm interested to race my Z4 against the older MZ3. Mine will have a CAI & exhaust and I've heard it should be a very close race between a slightly modded Z4 and a stock MZ3.
Bennyjet 01-03-2005, 04:18 AM I live in Santa Cruz CA and around here we have some well lets call them FF wanna bee's. stupid cars that have a spoiler that slows them down its so heavy and big. Any ways they are always trying to race me in my 98 e36 M3. its funny but it's not hurting my ego. nice kill us BMW people need to keep those that are less fortunate in place
M3Nut 01-03-2005, 05:08 AM I did the same to an eclipse in the m5 the other day. 4 seconds later I look around me and no eclipse to be found. I simply must have imagined it.
LWRNCE 01-03-2005, 05:22 AM How much horsepower are they stock?
Jaytron 01-03-2005, 05:27 AM nice... Lucky for you its dry over there. West coats is getting hammered with rain.
i feel ya.. i want it to stop.. i'm hydroplaning everywhere with my bald tires.. T_T
The new eclipses are poo poo anyways.. A lightly modded 4G63 AWD eclipse would give you some fun times though. Crazy lil 4 bangers..
M Roady 01-03-2005, 02:33 PM Damn, they are up around $30K for the GTS Spyder. GTs have 200 hp GT Spyders and GTSs have 210. They are comfortable, roomy, and kind of sporty. My friends have a vert.
Speaking of Spyders. An MR2 Spyder wanted to play this morning. Although considerably less HP it actually did better than the Eclipse. I stopped his passing once and walked away, then we got stopped at a light. I took it easy off the line and we were even at the end of first, me with an edge on speed. Shifting into second things got nasty...pretty sure my tires didn't hook up until I passed his front bumper. :evil2 He was cool though, had his top down and a big grin. He got thumbs up. This is a good spot for this kill, don't want to post two slaughter threads.
I think it is probably safe to say my Roadster is putting 220+ to the wheels. That seems typical with just the Shark Injector. Now when I get my M50 manifold and underdrive pulleys installed I'll say 230+. Maybe I can find a dyno day sometime.
dinan325i 01-03-2005, 04:07 PM Nice kill man. I met you at the sunshine speedway one time for a baybimmers meet. Looks like you got a couple more mods since then. I'm Specifically talking about the magnaflows I think but I def dont remember you having a new flywheel.
M Roady 01-03-2005, 04:50 PM I definitely had the mufflers, the UUC stuff is all new. The original clutch had one too many trips to the strip, figured that was a good excuse for upgrading the clutch/flywheel. I think the flywheel made the ///M a little meaner.
I just got a new license plate frame, it was too small. I'll have to trim the plate when I get the ///M back from the body shop. I almost bought a USF one while I was at the bookstore, but I had already ordered this one.
I'm going to upgrade my threads with LoJack. :stickoutt
mihalis 01-03-2005, 06:51 PM Nice run! Well at least she can drive a stick right? Gave you a little competition there maybe... :lol You should have kept it even in third and just wait side by side with her and look right at her, then floor it! :D I did that to a guy in a Saturn that thought he was about to take me one time :) Gotta love having so much more power then another car.
LAroadster 01-04-2005, 10:32 PM Nice run. How much HP do you have after all those mods?

The 3.0 engine on the Z4 is comparable, but slight edge goes to the MZ3, otherwise there is no competition between the 2.5i cars
M3Goz 01-06-2005, 12:51 AM LOL good work man. :redspot what kind of numbers do those things do stock?

I think Dave (SilverStreak) ran a 13.7 stock. I don't recall whether or not he did any weight reduction. He's fond of pulling the passenger seat out of them.
With the Shark Injector I ran a 13.5. I ran a low 13.6 with a 200 pound passenger. I'm hoping to break into 12's before I go FI. That may be wishful thinking. :devillook I do know my clutch slipping won't be an issue anymore.
93bmw325is 01-06-2005, 01:40 AM south tampa here too... don't know about the weather down there, though... I am currently in NYC... get back to the good weather on Thursday.

i think it was something bout remove the spare tire.. etc..
*waiting for "Dr.Dave" to chime in*
SilverStreak 01-06-2005, 10:32 AM There's no spare to remove in the M Roadster... ;)
I got a 13.7 at 101 mph at Atco with a 98 M Roadster I had as a loaner... no weight reduction done on that car, just played with the tire pressures...
redforcedbmw 01-06-2005, 12:04 PM i love to hear stories about people who think their cars are cool getting killed
