I just got the high pressure line on my power steering replaced because of a leak and on the drive home I noticed that I lost power assist when I would brake hard for a turn. It comes back once I start accelerating again. With normal braking it was fine. The shop told me that it just needs to get all the air out of the system and to drive around and come back Monday. This makes sense to me, but could it be something else since it only happens under hard braking.

Well I bled the power steering myself and the problem seems to have gone away.

my question is this how in the world is the air suppose to just leave the system by driving it around, i don't know about your mechanic he seems kinda fishy. a good mechanic knows you haev to bleed the system to get the air not drive it around. just my .02
