View Full Version : Solo II numbers
The Beastmaster 12-27-2004, 11:35 PM I know there is going to be a change in the size for SCCA numbers and letters for Solo II, but what is the exact size that is needed? I have a friend that has a design company and he is able to make the magnetic squares for you guys. From what I have been told, the magnetic stuff you order from the mainland runs @ $70, but I'm sure my friend would be able to do this much cheaper.
Please send me the specs for the size and I'll get back to you guys on the price.
ZZZING 12-28-2004, 01:42 AM I can't remember exactly, but I think the numbers have to be 8 inches and the class has to be 4 inches. Thrlls and I have already ordered ours from a fellow autocrosser.
Thanks

ZZZing, who did you order from?...Ken and I are going to have to do this also...
The Beastmaster 12-28-2004, 03:51 AM Gene - My friend is local and when I asked, he said something like $25/pair. Of course, then I found out the size for the #s and letters and he's supposed to get back to me. I believe he did make some of the stuff for current Solo II racers.

This is from an old post thrlls (RDKill) made on ForumsHawaii/SCCA :
"According to 3.7 in the SCCA Rule Book:
All cars must have car numbers and class letters on both sides. Car numbers will be a minimum of eight inches high and a minimim of 1.25" stroke. Class letters must be between 25% and 50% of the number size, no smaller that 3" high, and located adjacent to the numbers. All numbers and letters must be of the same single color and typeface, and in contrast to the background color. Contrast may also be obtained using a second color for border or field, sized at least 25% of the number stroke. All letters and numbers must be on body panels, not on windows, and only one set of numbers may be visible while the car is running."

Beastie...I'm interested, when you get a price let us know...
The Beastmaster 12-28-2004, 08:46 PM I gave him the specs of 10" and 8" and he went, "WOW, that big?" Regular price is $65 for the pair, but he can do it for $50/pair. However, it is probably best to work with him to make sure it is what you want.
The Beastmaster 12-30-2004, 10:48 PM Based on the specs that Dirk gave and using Andy's magnets as a model, the final price is $45 a pair! Anyone interested, post your name, #s and class here.

MauiM3Mania 12-31-2004, 12:06 AM Hi Bryan,
Are there any color (bg/fg) choices? I'm not sure what SCCA says about that. -Scott
Based on the specs that Dirk gave and using Andy's magnets as a model, the final price is $40 a pair! Anyone interested, post your name, #s and class here.
Andy's magnets
The Beastmaster 12-31-2004, 12:42 AM I dunno about that Scott, but if someone in SCCA can shed some light on it, it would help. If other colors are allowed, it would give people a greater choice to choose from.
Are the Maui guys interested? If so, I'd have to check with my friend about shipping.
MauiM3Mania 12-31-2004, 02:27 PM I'll pass around the word. Have a great one! -Scott
The Beastmaster 12-31-2004, 02:35 PM You can post on the MauiSCCA forums. I'm registered there, but never got the return e-mail from the webmaster so I can't post.

Check post 5, it says it all. I got that from Curtis Lee, who got it from the Rule book.
MauiM3Mania 01-01-2005, 02:39 AM Ok OK, Woodmiester. So I can't read! :help

The Beastmaster,
Thanks for setting up this local source for the magnetic numbers! Their work is AWESOME! Actually though I think the price is $45 a pair for single color font. The owner is very creative and has many fonts to chose from. As you know, I decided to get a border put on my font and I must say it came out fabulous! :redspot
Another thing I have to say though is, it sure is nice not having to pay for shipping for once! :buttrock Magnet sheets weigh a lot and I can only imagine that shipping numbers in from the mainland must cost a lot!
I will post pictures of the numbers is anyone wants to see them.
Thanks again Bryan,
Dirk

I guess you never know the cost until you finally make one. So the price for one color on white magnetic sheet is $45 for the pair. However, if you want to get fancy like Dirk's with a nice border around the numbers and letters, it will be $70 a pair. It's really labor intensive, but it comes out real nice! The colors I saw there were silver, a couple blues, red, a couple mauves & pinks, yellow ans some other ones.
Please post the pic of the numbers! They look fantastic!

Gene V 02-01-2005, 05:03 PM nice...
MauiM3Mania 02-22-2005, 02:51 AM Nah, it's up to you if you guys want them. If you want them, my friend can knock them out. If there are a lot of orders, I might have to help him out in the production.
I'm intersted in a pair, but with this class bumping thing... I have no clue if the 99 is in BSP, ASP or SM. I get different data from different people.
I'll try to get a firm answer ASAP. -Scott
The Beastmaster 02-22-2005, 02:59 AM Once you know, tell me and I'll have my friend take care of it. We'll see about a special price since you'll be pimpin' them up in Maui. Maybe if there are numerous orders, the cumulative shipping fee may be enough so I can even hand deliver them on a SCCA race day!
MauiM3Mania 02-22-2005, 03:11 AM Beastdude, you are on optimistic individual! -Scott

Always! Gotta be optimistic when dealing with Owen's jitters 2 weeks before a DE and only 3 apps have been received!
