OK guys, I need to get some 235/40/18 tires before the end of the month to pass inspection. I need something that:

is CHEAP (<$130/tire)
is pretty good for dry traction (occasional autocross)
has good wet traction
low noise
and good wear

So, basically a good allaround, cheap tire. I was about to get the Sumitomo HTR Z II's, but the guy at TireRack on the phone said they were very bad in wet traction and strongly argued against them for New Jersey weather (???). He suggested the HTR+ instead. Personally, I thought I would be better off with a directional-ish tire for what I want, but someone correct me if I'm wrong. All I know is I need help!!!

Thanks, and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Dan

Only after 25k miles. I had mine on for 2 years and almost 40k miles and they still looked like they had plenty of tread left!

Yes, but were they noisy?

They only got loud after 25k miles. It wasn't unbearably loud, just a low key hum on the highway, nothing like a 4x4 with offroad tires.
