So I got a steam cleaner for Christmas and decided to use on my BMW 2002's engine bay. I first sprayed it down with simple green, and then went at it. Problem is, it looks like it didn't do anything. Is their anything stronger I should use? Any help or suggestions would be great. :cool

GUNK workds really nice. It looks like you sat at the foot of your bay and spent at least 2 hours detailing it. Make sure you get the orange one because the normal one smeels lie the devil's asshole. Spray it on a relativley cool engine. If you come back from driving your car, let it rest for about half an hour, then go at it. Spray it on, let it sit for like a couple of minutes, if nessecary brush it, then hose it off very well. Finally, turn your car back on and let it run with the hood closed for a good 5 minutes, this will dry everything free of any water spots. Caution: you may need to cover your alternater and a CAI if they are open to getting wet! Other than that, Enjoy.

Good tip. I'd like to remind anyone about the tip I learned from Jim Powell (even though he doesn't take the credit for this). After your engine is clean drive it so it warms to normal operating temperature. When you get home open the hood and spray the engine compartment with regular Armorall. Let it sit overnight. In the morning water-spray all the excess off and wipe it down real good. The Armorall brightens the aluminium, and makes all the black plastic look dark and rich. I did this and it works, and lasts for a long time.

I used foamy engine brite. I attached before and after pics. Pic 1 is before.

I need to do something with the valve cover. As for the carbs, I need to take some pieces off and clean them.

WTA, got any pics of yours?
